Countach
« on: March 03, 2015, 12:54:08 PM »
Wow, was just curious after something piqued my interest.

Definitely the coolest car of the mid 80's to early 90's.

For half a million though, I'd better be able to run pipe cleaners down every pipe without a speck of debris.

'80s? That's a mid '70s vintage car.

It's over the top and a bit meh these days. It's just a collection of about to break Italian junk. They rave on and on about it being the poster car of a generation. The poster fixation had nothing to do with the Countach. It was that lovely lady in the white one piece bathing suit.

BS, the design and initial production was in 74, but 65% of the 2041 cars were built in the 80s

They were known more for their insanity than their quality but they certainly did start a trend for the "supercar".
However they were little more than a tractor when this beautifully insane beastie came along...

Bingo.   Palef and jeep00 are better suited reading about Farmall tractors.

I'm sorry, I'm so astounded I simply can't think of what logical fallcy to apply to your argument.

It's a 70s design that was in continuous production for a number of years and was "improved" by sticking more plastic on it and giving it ever more powerful engines in a chassis that was already a hedge-seeking missile.

It's an aspirational vehicle that would never live up to the hype. I had the poster on the wall because I was teenager with no brains and swollen nether regions.

There is no way a Countach can be regarded as a classic, especially following the Miura. A Countach looks more kit-car than a De Tomaso Pantera, especially an LP5000.

Don't misunderstand me-I agree they were the coolest car in the 80's. But not for quality. For insanity. Look at them, they are angles all over the dang place, doors all messed up, but it was new, different and just...cool. And Lamborghini made it that way. But IMHO, it was not the car of the '90's once the F40 showed up. They tipped the scale on supercar and shoved it across the hall and beat the Lambo guys in the head with it.

repainted in the early 1990s in a beautiful rich Black Cherry Pearl

Color also known as "purple".

I know a guy who bought old used Ferraris for his daily driver.  He'd get whatever was 20-30k at the time, drive it until the repairs exceeded the value, and then trade the chassis for parts value to a used Ferrari dealer towards his next purchase.  So He got to drive a "new" fairly well maintained Ferrari every few years at a cost of maybe $10k/year, and he never had to pay for major repairs since he'd just trade it as parts to a Ferrari specialist for about what it was worth as a functioning car, or in some cases more than it was worth as a drivable car if it was rare and was in good shape.

You'd also think that a guy selling a half-million dollar car would be able to pay some high school kid to write his ads, with particular attention to the difference between "where", "were", and "we're", and other equally dumb grammar errors.  Can't tell if this guy is some high school dropout who landed a job pushing used junker exotics, or someone who actually knows exotic cars but can't be bothered to learn any grammar.  Either way, the initial impression is "do not trust this guy to know anything except that this particular shade of purple paint is known as "black cherry".
