Ok I'll bite that hook:

That 620r review was odd, the 500hp ATom is faster in all categories and is 4 years older, yet they state that it's the fastest car in the world essentially.  "No other car is like this"..except the Atom and a dozen others like it, which are actually faster.  The 500hp Atom was the fastest car around Top Gear's track for a while at 1.15, the stock first generation GTR was 2 seconds behind that, with the newer ones (below) beating the 500hp Atom.  That particular Atom was a full half second quicker than the 620r (2.7 vs 2.2) just to 60 mph, and pulls away even more after that.

Both the these GTRs in this article are faster to 60, in the 1/4 mile, and have 40+mph higher top speed than the 620r, I have a hard time buying it would send either, much less modified 900 to 1400whp GTRs (custom vs custom, it's only fair) cars yelping from the yard.

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1085911_2015-nissan-gt-r-nismo-to-do-0-60-mph-in-2-0-seconds

I did drive in a Polaris Slingshot not too long ago, and I have to say I smiled and laughed the entire time, even though it was slower than most of the cars I've had recently, it was probably more fun due to the experience and other intangibles.  Plus everywhere you went people wanted to talk to you about it or get a ride in it, hundreds every time you take it out.  A good compromise, and a lot cheaper than an Atom.  We have a deposit holding an Alfa 4c, and will sell the Nissan after 4+ years with it this spring.  The 4c is far lighter, far less power, and not really a racing car, but a fun touring car.  I don't really care about speed so much as I'm getting older, more about the experience, although speed is fun still.  I wouldn't say no if she convinced me to get another of the newer GTRs though, but would not be convinced to spend a lot of $ modding it like the last one.  I am going to drive the new SRT stuff, the new Z06, and absolutely several of the new Mustangs before making any decision for car #2.  It's getting pretty tight, a lot of competition between all the manufacturers now, especially under 80$k.

I think the video was pointing out that the Caterham was more fun than anything else. I drove an older Super Seven a few times, and it is simply far more visceral than any modern supercar. The Atoms are very fast, but they don't like going sideways at full throttle. Also keep in mind that Caterham is, essentially, an modernized Lotus 7, which first appeared in 1957. Besides, I've enjoyed going 0 to 160 mph in two seconds... Okay, that was in an F-4J off of a catapult. Still, a mighty whack in the seat of one's pants....

Almost 3 years ago, we brought on a new Engineer. He will eventually become Lead Engineer when I retire. His brother Brian is a very well to do lawyer. Brian Salamone's Lamborghini Aventador is surely the most over-the-top, and outrageous that I've seen... Check it out... Brian recently placed an order for a Veneno... I suppose that the Aventador is too tame. It'll be for sale this summer. Brian is a genuine character.....

Fantastic pics, I love the Gallardo and Avents, one of my best friends is a big Gallardo guy and started the club in Vancouver for the Lambo guys.  I've not been in the Aventador yet, but have a fair bit of time in a few Gallos, great cars, probably my favorites.

One of the reasons we want the 4c is the light weight and "fun" factor that provides - piling on power always works, but chopping weight is an entirely different kind of experience, at least it is for me.  Just be a change in another direction, plus I haven't had a 2 seater since the Viper.  Like I said, the Slingshot was the most fun I've had in ages, and it really isn't all that fast, most any newer sport bike will beat it easily, not to mention higher performing cars, but that fun factor is hard to beat.  I think having a passenger beside you that is laughing at the same things you are is a big part of the attraction, as dumb of an investment as they are, I could see me in one next year instead of the ecoboost Mustang as a 3rd/project car.

I don't think anyone will ever compete with cat shots for acceleration, not in a car anyway, maybe if they make a rail gun with a seat on it some day.  Few people have access to that, or will ever experience it, which is a shame for us, and a good deal for you and others who have.

Here's a Charger of yesteryear.... Remembering this may help take the sting out of the 2015 4 door being called that....

A couple of years ago, I met a guy with a nice yellow Gallardo. He also owns an '05 Ford GT, and a '64 Corvette convertible. Believe it or not, that Corvette is his favorite. I asked him why, and he said that it's the most raucous, loud and seat-of-the-pants fun of the three. I like old school cars, and I understood exactly what he meant. I have some shots of his Gallardo somewhere. Uploaded to MediaFire...

neither do i. i can't stand the original of the new gen chargers. the 13's don't look too bad. i kinda really like this one. i do really still think that whomever put the charger name on a 4 door car should be stabbed in the knees with an icepick. multiple times.  :devil

The STi is quick and offers reasonably good handling. However, my '86 Shelby GLHS, upgraded to the 225 hp 2.5L engine would lean all over it. One advantage the STi has is the all wheel drive, really helps from standing starts. The Sti weighs in at 3,444 lbs. That's pretty darn heavy for the power. My GLHS tipped the scales at 2,217 lbs. That means that the STi has a power to weight ratio of 11.3 lb/hp. Very good, but no match for the old Shelby at 9.85 lb/hp. My WRX was tame in comparison. Tame and not even close to the GLHS in terms of hustling around a road course. Shelby simply built a street legal race car, at a time when the fastest cars offered by other US car makers were not very impressive. This little Shelby had a very hard edge on it. Not for the nervous types.

Shelby built just 500 of these little monsters, and less than 300 survive. Originally fitted with a 175 hp 2.2L, intercooled turbo motor, they were one of the fastest cars you could buy in 1986. Three years later, I upgraded to the new 225 hp engine. I sold it not many years ago. It had few rivals... The ultimate sleeper. Hot Rod magazine tested it in 1986, with Shelby on hand. Shelby invited the SoCal Shelby club to come out with their hot rodded GT-350s. They were beaten by the little GLHS. If you can find one in decent shape, buy it. You can't go faster for less $$$.

Sweet..........I had the GLH and the later Shelby CSX-T that was originally a thrifty rental car.

I still have a cylinder head off of the maserati as well as one from a spirit R/T just waiting to top off a stout bottom end but not sure which car it will go in.

Kind of disappointed in the press comparisons of the charger hellcat.  They keep comparing both the challenger and the charger to the Camaro, completely ignoring the chevy SS.  It's not dead yet, still has a couple of years production left and may return after the chassis refresh is complete.  So why are they completely ignoring the obvious comparison of the SS vs. the Charger, both SRT and SRT hellcat?  Maybe because the chevy SS beats the vanilla charger SRT, even though the SS is "old news", and a Chevy SS with enough mods to make it cost the same as a charger hellcat would likely be faster with more power?

Anyhow, its super irritating.  None of the online review sites I could find tonight are making the comparison between the charger and the SS.  The Camaro should rightfully be compared to the challenger, but the SS is the right comparison for the charger.  Must not fit the narrative.

Maybe I'll find someone with a new and film my own 2009 G8 vs. 2015 charger comparison, passing it off as a SS comparison by proxy...  My 6.0 L76 is a few cubes and a couple dozen hp shy of the LS3 in the SS so any track results will be pretty conservative.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

For brother Hajo, Ink, and all Dodge "go fast" enthusiast.  Check out the two Motorweek reviews and tell me what you see.  OK OK.. I will get to the point.  That 707 HP beast can't beat the 2013 Shelby in the quarter mile - even with more HP and TQ while the Motorweek drivers are testing.

Having said that, I would love have a Hellcat Challenger parked next to my Shelby.  I grew up with my father telling me - work hard, pay my bills, raise your kids to be resectable, vote.. all the responsible things most Americans aspire to do.  One thing I never grew out of - the want to go fast.

I learned a long time ago, there is always someone faster....someone who can draw better....play chess better....

I would much rather own an old school challenger then the newer ones....

not to say I would turn away a new one :D

I could care less how many doors it has as long as it runs like Hell.

Im not 17yo anymore. I kinda like the idea of a 4 door sedan to park my big arse in.

As long as it has 700+ HP. :D

My sentiments exact. While I would love a new Z06, and the missus is dead set on the Alfa 4c being at least one new acquisition, both 2 doors, and our current and previous performance rides have mostly been 2 doors, I could, and would, love a nice 4 door that could be handy for grocery getting, touring about sedately, but able to transform into a monster with some right foot and maybe some switchology.  That's what's so great about the Hellcat and some of the other 4 door monsters like BMW and MB's such cars, and others.  That new Tesla bears at least some credit/investigating as well, even though I'm not Mr. Hybrid fan or defender, it's performance can't be discounted, those electric instant torque/power motors are something else.
