As one who had taken the opportunity to do a this i will advise the OP DON'T...
After the gulf war slowed down 7 of us from a company..name to withheld.. took a 1 years leave of absence to go drive convoys over there.The lure of 110,000 dollars tax free plus a 30 thousand dollar bonus at the end of the contract, was an offer we could not turn down. The only thing was being away from families for the year. We all passed the security checks and the driving histories. We flew to Texas for the driver indroctinations.. Went through their training courses yada yada yada..
You sign a contract stating that states you will be away for 365 days...(hitch one) You are flown out of country every 3 months for 2 weeks as a VACATION... at their cost to any where in the world...no problem .. it was good they paid for everything...
After we were there for 11 month and 3 weeks we were shipped back to the states.. now here is the funny part...
1. Due to the fact we were not away for the required 365 days... NO Bonus..
2. Due to the fact we were not away for the 365 days... taxes on 100,000 was assessed to us (not tax free like the contract stated)
3. due to the fact that we were not there for the whole last month we were not given the last months pay ...
4. We all took this company to court and won.. But due to the fact they set up a company out of country, we had to go through a foreign country to get our court ordered money. Bad part is the counrty they set up in does not and will not allow the workers to sue their bosses.
5. So for the luck of thinking ahead I saved 30,000 which went to paying my taxes, a couple of the others were not so lucky.
So take it from someone who has been there done that...remember if it looks too good to be true .. then its not.
