Pipz isnt the brewster like a softer less armored f4f? lol...they gived them junk
It's a stripped down version of the Navy buffalo. They thought they were giving us junk but in stripping off all the protections they made the plane so much lighter that it became an absolute joy to fly. All the pilots loved it, except for the lack of speed later in the war.
I've read many books written by brewster pilots and I especially recall one scene where they were going to engage fleets of russian planes and the brewster pilots were looking with envy how the Messerschmitts of another squadron were outclimbing them at huge speed. The finnish brewsters had a modified DC-3 engine. The engine had bad reliability problems until the mechanics detected a flaw in design and reversed a piston ring, after that the engine was very reliable.
