What's the best way to determine aircraft usage?
« on: April 29, 2015, 08:37:15 AM »
By my figuring, the following planes still need to be updated to AH2 standards:

D3A1
B5N
TBM
SBD
Ki.61
Tempest
Ju.88
Ki.67
F4F/FM2
A-20G/Boston III
Me.163B
Ar.234

So what is the best way to determine which plane in this group gets used most often?  I'm looking at statistics, and I see Kills and Deaths, but how can you estimate #sorties from that?  Not every plane gets a kill (esp bombers) and not every plane dies each sortie.  And some planes (Tempest) probably get multiple kills per sortie...

I'm not sure how to find out, don't know if there is any simple way to. We should probably just make a speculation, run a poll or something?

You can't. Once we had # of sorties in the stats for a short time, but that was taken away.

For fighters, the best, albeit rough, determination of 'usage' is to simply add kills and deaths. This gives a reasonably fair assessment, and I'm using this for my stats & evaluations.

For bombers, this method doesn't really work, as those often deliberately try to avoid any conbtact with enemy fighters, especially the lesser armed ones like the Boston. Or think of the B-29 which mostly hovers 25k above everything else.

Oh, and on a side note, even number of sorties wouldn't be the best assement of usage. Only time logged would be. Sorties in CV planes tend to be much, much shorter than sorties in, say, a Ta 152 or the Pony.

OK, here's how I would order the aircraft usage, based on my vast ( ) experience in the game.  I'd divide it into 3 groups - most used, least used, and middle usage:

Most used:
   Tempest, A-20G/Boston III, F4F/FM2

Least used:
   D3A1, B5N, Me163B, SBD

Middle usage:
   TBM, Ki.61, Ju.88, Ki.67, Ar.234

Does that seem roughly correct?

Yes.

Though the Me 163 is a special case, as it's usage is severely limited not by appearance, but by very much limited availability (generally 1 rear base only, highly perked)

Agree.  Except the 163 gets more use than you think.

I may have missed the 110.  That would have to be the leader in usage of the not-yet-updated group of planes I think...I see 110s pretty regularly.

P38's needs to be updated also.
Many of the older AH2 models need to be updated, but not nearly as much as the remaining AH1 models need it.  P-38 is an older AH2 model.
