For video streaming...
« on: April 30, 2015, 01:33:50 PM »
I'm wondering what kind of hardware requirements are needed for watching a full UHD video (graphics card aside).

-Could a typical i3 processor handle this task?

-What is the minimal internet speed needed to watch these videos?

-Could a GTX760 handle these requirements?

Alot depends on what resoulution you want to watch them at???? I had an i5 2770k and gtx 470's and watched video in 1040p no problem. Also do you have it connected to a monitor that can handle Hi-Res..

You will probably find that UHD only makes sense on a television. Everything from Blu-ray on up will be protected content and not available to your PC. That said, Youtube.com will be allowing 4K content just not the protected variety.

Protections can be removed. For example I have a satellite receiver that decodes ECM and lets me to save full hd content from paid channels directly to my computer.

The specific computer I was thinking of building would have a built in blu-ray player.

You can burn Blu-Ray. You will not be able to watch Blu-Ray.

He just needs a licensed player to decode the bluray.

The Blu-ray player needs to be attached to the computer in a secure manner in order to comply with DRM, which is not a guarantee that you can watch Blu-ray movies. The reason is very simple, and you can blame Sony. The DRM protection on PC changes over time. Especially new releases will have issues, such as audio not working even if you can watch the video. Some simply refuse to play at all.

Get used to it. This isn't going away.

Actually, Cinivia is not related to just Bluray, as I assume that protection is what you are talking about.  Sony did not start using Cinivia until Bluray got decrypted.  So far as I am aware, Cinivia has not been broken.  It simply requires the original media to be installed in the player preventing the content from being streamed.  It just killed Sony's media sales for Bluray and DVD.

The Bluray approved DRM was actually forged by Intel.  They are the ones who all manufacturers have to purchase the license from in order for Bluray content to be played.  Heck of a racket they have.

The members of the Bluray committee all signed off on this.  Sony is just one of the members.

So... now I'm really confused. Does that mean that I need special software in order to be able to watch a bluray disk on a computer?

Legally, you need something like CyberLink’s PowerDVD or ArcSoft’s TotalMedia Theatre to play the Bluray disk.  They are licensed to decode and play pre-recorded Bluray content.

All your hardware, used to show the movie, in your chain also has to be licensed (disc drive, video card, monitor...).

There are probably other ways to get around it, but they are not legal and cannot be discussed here.  Try Google.

Don't suppose you live in Antigua?

That's where Slysoft is based, for the very reason discussed in the above link.
