Just make it like when a GV hits a tree, you spin all over the place and bounce back onto the map.

That's not how the arrow works, it's always at a fixed position for that row (or line) of sectors. It's really just the equivalent of a dar bar, it doesn't point to your position.

Even worse, on many maps you can go far out offmap, up to several sectors. And of course, if going NOE you won't even get the arrow. On some maps, for example, this is an extremely safe way to attack the factories inexplicably position right near the map edges.
And unfortunatley on some maps the only way. If the alternative is to fly up to 10 sectors over enemy territory and bases, the off map alternative seems like a better option. the chance of surviving 5-10 sectors over enemy territory isnt that big. The dispersed strats are not helping the game, it both encourage off map flying and bomb and bailing, on some maps it is a one way trip to some factories due to the distance, most bombers will simply not have the range to make it back.

Can the same process of being disconnected and jumping back into flight be applied to the map boundary?

Reach the edge of the map, game kicks you out, and if you log back in it's pointing you away from map boundary?   :salute

If you're worried at all about defending against strat runners on some maps, it's a concern.  It's basically near-invisibility and more unpredictability than is available any other way, often giving them a nearly free shot at a strat for no risk.

A solution I think would be nice would be off map, instead of the arrow you show on enemy dot dar.  Takes away the advantage, not sure how difficult it would be to coad.

The 'engine goes off when you go off the map' idea sounds good, but I bet someone so inclined could glide a helluva long ways dead stick in a bomber from high enough to still abuse it.

Turn em back, glass wall, blow em up, dot dar...  Something along those lines I'd be good with.

Hey, fair enough.  Just saying the only reason I care about it.  Some of us go looking for other stuff to do, like buffhunting, when there's no big red bar to head towards. ;)

Tonight I just noticed that this isn't quite true.  It is true that, on some maps like Compello, the arrow on the map disappears once the enemy flies entirely off the map (and it is also true that you then can't kill the enemy because your bullets go right through him).  However, I noticed tonight that the dar bar wraps around to the other side of the map.  For example, tonight an enemy went off map at 5,20 but the darbar of him (and the friendly that was chasing him) suddenly showed up at 5,0.  When they went to offmap above 6,20 their darbars went from 5,0 to 6,0.  So I guess one could look for dar bar at the completely opposite side of the map from the HQ to see if an attack might be inbound.

I'm wondering now if we shouldn't EMBRACE the limits of the map by having them wrap around.  Add a 1 sector (25 mile) border to the map and then pop them in on the other side - because the WORLD IS ROUND!

I agree completely as long as it takes you the real life amount of time to circle the globe and come back around the other side.

Otherwise.................... .NO.

How about change that arrow for the dar bar so we can tell if it's 1 or 50 planes off the map.

Not really concerned with a couple of planes off map but 50 planes off map showing as if it is just one is not cool.
