Mosquito Missions
« on: June 02, 2015, 02:27:28 PM »
I did a considerable amount of research prior to Target for Today on the Mosquito and its various missions. The most detailed book I found was this:

http://www.amazon.com/Mosquito-Original-Multi-Role-Combat-Aircraft-ebook/dp/B00E8HPKLA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1433272903&sr=8-1&keywords=mosquito%3A+the+original

It discusses all aspects of the plane, from its design and construction through to its use in combat. One mission that interested me (and which we tried to simulate with some minor success in the scenario) was the job of BARCAP over enemy bases just after dark or just before dawn. The mossies would stay low and use their radar to look for enemy night fighters landing or taking off, and bounce them as they were climbing out, on approach, or on the runway. Mossies also performed night intruder and defensive night missions as well. These missions are all detailed in the above work, and it's  pretty cheap on kindle at about 5 bucks.

Another good source is this one: http://www.mossie.org/Mosquito.html, which contains a small collection of wartime recollections and stories from Mossie Pilots.
