Specifications - New Graphics coming question...
« on: May 28, 2015, 01:52:21 PM »
My son will be joining the game soon.  A 13 year old "squeaker" however will learn to play with respect...

He is going to inherit my old system which I know will handle the new upgrades when they are released.

I am going to buy a new gaming system.

Need advice on RAM, Graphics Card, etc...

Looking at 16GB x2
Considering the Graphics Card to be Nividia GTX750

Thought I saw something like AMD X processors.  I assume this is for gaming.

Also lots of ventilation.

Anyone have advice (other than having a system built).  I cannot afford a good custom build like I want to I am settling for Best Buy or Tiger Direct options.

trying to do this at or under $900 with the primary purpose of playing AH2...

Lame I know, but this is what I do for free time!!!

Any input is appreciated.  Thanks!

Right now, all I can tell you is if you want to be able to run with next update, with all the bells and whistles enabled, you are going to need a video card, with at least 2GB of dedicated video RAM.

The faster the GPU, the better.

Rather than 16x2 of RAM, I'd choose a much better graphics card. If you prefer nVidia, go up in the "tens" as much as you can afford.

For other specs, look at least at the last thread on the subject on this board: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,372078.msg4957152.html#msg4957152. Lots of information about what to look after there.

SlipKnt - I would recommend for a video card, a 2Gb version of the nVidia 970 GXT.  Best bang for the buck.  I would also go with a solid state hard drive. A mid-range CPU - but stick with Intel.  And get a good power supply too.  You should be able to do it all for well under $1000...and if you wait for a couple of weeks until nVidia releases the next generation of video cards, the 970GTX will probably be cheaper.

AFAIK there are no 2Gb models of GTX970. The base model is 4Gb and even that caused controversy because the last 512Mb is slower than the rest. For future gaming titles and especially high resolution gaming, 2Gb ram is not enough anymore.

Oh, if you are thinking about UHD resolutions, then the cards should have 6GB of dedicated video RAM.

Wow 6gb.  I like hearing that.  Not too many 6gb cards out there now, Titan maybe a few others.  I don't know if I'll be flying at 4k or not, I have a dual 980 sli in one system, but I know how much support nVidia has put into the AH SLI driver...

I was planning on a Titan or whatever else is out there once I upgrade when Sky comes out.  Looks like it's a must now for UHD/4k.  Good times, can't wait to see how it looks and plays.

The 980 Ti is slated to have the same memory bandwidth as the Titan X, with half the memory (6GB). The intro price is supposed to be $650 according to the news just released. So, if you have the money you can start there, or wait on the AMD Fiji.

So, this month 980Ti, next month Fiji.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

A lot depends on cost of course and your intended use. But since it's for a 13 year old. Look at going with a good solid infrastructure (MB, Case, HD) with upgradability in mind. At 13 he might like the game for a month, year or a lifetime. And you have to look at the other games he likes. This game can be played on a good solid economically built computer. While a 980 is a good video card is the $500+ price tag worth it on a 13 year olds comp? With a 980 it would be good to have all the other expensive pieces around it.

My suggestion is look at the mid range stuff. Set a budget and get the best video card you can within that limitation.
