I can't remember if I read it in John C. Walter's wartime memoir "My War" or Truman Smith's "The Wrong Stuff" that briefly mentions Miller's disappearance and mentions that it was believed Miller's plane was accidentally downed by friendly bombers that had to drop their bomb load over the Channel due to being forced to RTB because of bad weather.

Also saw a documentary awhile back about possible freezing of the fuel lines which caused the engine to quit and they then crashed into the Channel and another documentary that claimed Miller was on a super secret spy mission to France and was captured by the Germans, tortured to death and then his body left on the door step of some brothel in Paris.  Only problem about the spy theory is that Paris was already liberated before Miller's disappearance.

I was born in 1950.  My parents graduated High School in the early forties.  I grew up on Big Band music and I still love it today.

My favorite swing band?  Glenn Miller of course.  He, and I believe Jerry Gray arranged and wrote many of their hits which were many.

They probably would be ranked as the Beatles of that era.

It was also great to be able to listen to the birth of Rock and Roll.  Radio was the chief entertainment even in the early to mid 50s.

Such memorable hits as:

American Patrol
Moonlight Serenade (their theme song)
In the mood
Tuxedo Junction
Little Brown Jug
Chattanooga Choo Choo  Sung and whistled by Tex Benekie (spelling) lead Tenor Sax player.  Don't remember if the other singers were the Jordanaires or the Modernaires (old)
Juke Box Saturday Night
String of Pearls and the list goes on.  I smile when I hear the Music of Glenn Miller and his Band.  Reminds me of my late parents.
St. Louis Rag March and so it goes on.............

The History Detectives did a fine job.  It's an hour you will not regret by watching.

I very much like Glenn Miller songs, Hajo's list and more (like Pennsylvania 6-5000).

The guy who did the research behind the documentary (the plausible one about RAF bombers involvement) did an awesome job of it.

I clearly read too much as this isn't new stuff.  The hit by a jettisoned RAF bomb theory has been around a long time.   I very much enjoy that show
