It's a more powerful version of what is in my system. As long as you have a decent graphics card paired with it, you shouldn't have any real problems. Though it is an alpha so one never knows.

Games have been making use of multi-cores for a while now. AH3 for the moment is still using just two, but Hitech has indicated that he could make use of three. The number of games I have that make use of that many I can count on one hand out of more than 150 I own.

I think you should wait to see what Skuzzy has to say on it.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

That would be a fine processor, for the next version.

Just for comparison, I have an E8500 Core2Duo overclocked to 3.8 GHz and it's not the bottleneck in Alpha. The i3 has a faster bus speed, so it should outperform my processor with a noticeable margin although the clock speed is the same. As Dragon Tamer said, a good graphics card paired with it should make a decent gaming rig.

i3 is a fine CPU for most games. Only a select handful of games that utilise multicore fully may suffer (for example Battlefield4).

Intel has new chips coming out in less than a week, so you will want to hold off making a purchase for that long.  Leaks so far indicate better than anticipated performance improvements on the new chips.  Of course, leaks can be wrong, but either way its worth your while to wait a week or two.
