Look up Morton Thiokol in Las Vegas Nevada USA back about 1987 or 88.

Another past big explosion was the LNG ship in Long Beach, CA in the 1970's:

Dock in liverpool blew up in WWII , it was kept secret until after the war.

It was a ammunition ship.

The WW1 Halifax explosion was massive...2000+ lost their lives  9000+ injured when the SS Mont Blanc collided with the SS Imo in Halifax Harbor

The Texas City explosion in 1947 was one of the largest non nuclear explosions on record.  2100 metric tons of ammonium nitrate exploded in the harbor after a fire broke out on the SS Grandcamp

The stories on these are a lesson in the worst possible senario coming to fruition.
