New Scenario\Day: 1946
« on: September 18, 2015, 05:38:54 AM »
Like many of you I'd love to fly some of the planes that "almost" made it into WWII but did make it into the games main arena (squadron strength etc.).

How about a 1946 scenario or day each month?  Perhaps even just an evening (like the old Titanic Tuesday).

Be fun to fly things like these:
  • Grumman F8F "Bearcat"
  • Dornier Do 335 "Arrow"
  • F4U-4E and F4U-4N
  • Lavochkin "La-9"
  • Hawker "Sea Fury"

Maybe after all the planes that did see action in the war are added.

slade,

Download the alpha and get in the giant mission in the alpha Euro arena. Luft versus 8thAA with giant bomber streams, giant cloud banks, lots of escorts and attackers all over the continent.

Depending on how loosely the criteria for inclusion are applied, I feel like it would end up being "über German jets and missiles.... and some obsolete prop planes" arena. And if we don't allow the cool prototypes and planned aircraft, I fail to see any real point beyond the few planes you've listed, in which case it's "MA + La-9 and Do 335".

No, I'd much rather see them expand the holes in the plane set we already have. MW/LW axis bomber, Japanese planes, LW carrier attackers, EW Allied bombers, etc.

I agree.

Being a Wishlist forum I just wanted to plant the seed at this point.

No denying it would be fun to fly those 1946 birds though!  :x

To me the "plane" is almost irrelevant. We have a great group of planes now, of which only a few are used with any regularity, and most of those we see either lawndart, run, bail, or hide in ack. I'd rather see HTC work on a way to bring "combat" back into the game.

The F-15C almost made it into WW2 but it was just slightly but late after the war ended, so can I have that too?  :airplane:

It would be ridiculous to assume just because something is fun to fly it should be in the game of course.  The wish posted is for the context of 1946.

Most of the planes I listed where built, in production and flown in 1945 let alone 1946.  They don't meet the squadron strength rule to be in the game if I understand it right.

A whole other topic, but it has been stated that the expansion into ground vehicles, dragged much of the combat away from the skies.  Not that I agree, but maybe if the aircraft had more of the advantage again, Fugi's wish for more "combat" would rise again.

Only my opinion, but it seems that mostly GVs are hidden, so hard to spot, and they sting you when your back is turned.  Although there are some fierce head to head battles at certain hot spots, I wonder what it would be like if there were separated ground and air arenas.

...

AH misses so many important WW2 planes:

Soviet: Yak-1, LaGG-3, Pe-2 series, MiG-3
UK: Beaufighter series, Wellington
German: Do-17, Do-217
Italian: SM.79, C200
Japanese: Ki-27, K-21 (and many-many more)

If I would add non-ww2 planes I'd go to entire period - similar to WWI.

I'd like to see 50th to 70th: Korea, Vietnam, Israeli-Arabic wars etc. (of course not at MA)

The problem is simply that most don't know how to attack GV's and how to sweep an area for them.

Just yesterday I saw two GV attacks broken up by myself alone in a Tiger, managing only 8 kills, while something on the order of 20 were racked up by 3 aircraft.

Later I helped break one up with an IL-2. I one-passed 3 Panzer IV's, two flacks, and that was with a flack nest brewing out by the spawn.

To locate them, you need to slow down. To attack them, you need to come in from high angles. Aircraft still hold every advantage they ever had, now it's simply up to the pilot to figure out how to use them.

How many air to ground kills do you have on Nordman, ORick, Waystin2 or any of a number of other deadeye GV gunners?  First of all, like I stated, I cannot SEE them.  I can turn graphics off and slow down to a crawl and wouldn't find one if it were sitting directly in front of me.  Second, if I did spot it, the location is lost before I can get to the high angle shot.

I used to gun them down with iL2s before the icon change and the F3 mode was taken away.  Anyhow, it was more about me thinking aloud.
