I think the tracers are accurate in location, if you're hit they're indicating the difference in your location on the bandit's PC. It seems approximate because we see time and location together as movement but we also have our own "special relativity" where time and location are separated by the travel time of the internet traffic.

So if I'm hearing you correctly, the angle and position might be right, but the timing and therefore everything's location as it displays on your system would be different because of the connection speed?  That sounds plausible.  It's still not tremendously useful information for the most part.  Looking at the film viewer for example, you only get a very general idea what happened as far as the other guy's gunnery.

If you turn on tracks with the film viewer you can just imagine yourself further behind and the bandit further ahead to better see their shot. For the actual shot they had you can always ask the bandit if they filmed.

The useful information is knowing that defense needs an earlier response and the amount can vary because the bandits don't all have the same connection.

Yup.  I think of it as, "It's always worse than it looks."  If his nose is anywhere close to you he may have a shot, and I conduct myself accordingly.
