I had an usually light day yesterday so I decided that to go see what, if anything, the folks who were carrying out operations against ISIS had to say.
Among the items that I thought were interesting: The number of sorties and dropped ordnance was a bit of a surprise to me (8,000+, average of 50 per day). Targeting. The ROE and how it is being implemented, and when it works and when it might seem not to be. And most interesting, a quite nuanced understanding about what ISIS is – it is in a sense a loose coalition of various groups that have come together. (The fact that it is a loose collation has implications on what tactics would be useful).
I know that the job of a spokesman is to put the best light as possible on something, but in the past few years I have come to the opinion that most career military personnel have been a lot more up front than in years past.
I think that the Pentagon has been a lot more informative than the rubber chicken circuit that has been raking in the ratings on cable (in US at least) these past few days.
Anyway, I watched several hours of video I thought that these were the most interesting. If this is not your thing, that is OK with me.
