manned guns other than shore battery?
« on: October 02, 2015, 03:28:59 PM »
question for the MA makers here. Iv been experimenting with things such as beach defense and ambush points using manned guns other than shore bat. Provided this is done properly, balance tested and assigned to a base, is this MA legal?  :headscratch:
I'm not completing maps (yet) but making mini maps and samples of what MA player may find "new" or "different". Things that may change game play but still within MA limits

To the best of my knowledge you are not allowed to add extra guns to an MA map (other than shore batteries) and I haven't heard anyone say this is going to be different in the next version. HTC are very strict about what can be put in an MA terrain. They can't afford to have the MA crash due to some object-related bug, it has to run 24/7 and they might not be there to reset the arena if it does. Essentially you can put in the air and V fields, towns, the strat facilities, tank town, ports and fleets, spawn points, shore batteries and that is it.

So my advice is that if you are thinking of doing or putting anything into your terrain that you have not already seen done in an existing MA terrain, PM Skuzzy before doing so. It is less frustrating to be told "no" before you spend a lot of time on it.

Skyguns, if you are making smaller, custom terrains, think about submitting them to me for the AvA.  Custom is our thang!  I've made custom "flak bases" around our tank fighting areas to keep planes away in some terrains.  These were unmanned puffy ack though.  Adding extra manned guns is fine (in the AvA), but you must remember to place them close enough to the field they are assigned to so you can see & select them on the screen when you choose to be in a manned gun in the hanger.  If it's too far away, you won't see its selection circle in the hanger.  Same thing applies to shore batts.

How many people play in ava on average nowadays, this may help when mapmaking.

what if they had a new "base" that was manned and unmanned flack rings on coastlines... Sounds interesting...

Easily buildable.  Would take about 5-10 minutes.

I'd say about 10 players Skyguns (on a good night).  We usually build our bases about 15 miles from each other, so it doesn't take long to get back in the fight, i.e. continuous action.

Unless you're talking about V-bases in the AvA, (not the MA here.)
They can't be too close sometimes but the TE limits them to 3 miles close. On tank night, it's usually obvious where the fight will be.
Easy in-game again.
