New version of skin admin up
« on: December 02, 2015, 11:07:27 AM »
I have added some more error handling to the validation process of the skin admin page.

This is something I have had around for a bit, but finally enabled.  It does specific file size checks on the bitmaps being submitted.  The file is not the exact size it should be, an error will be thrown.

I need to hear from anyone who is getting that error, if they are sure the image files are the correct format and pixel size.

Some editors may add extraneous bytes to the end of the file for their own use.  Photoshop does not, but I am not sure about Gimp, or others.

Can you state for us what the parameters are? I don't have any fully complete skins at the moment to upload, but I use Gimp exclusively, so the sooner you get feedback, the better.

Thanks Skuzzy, I'll skin something quickly and let you know how the submission goes.

In a clean, indexed 8bit bitmap file, the size of the file is calculated as follows:

(Number X pixels * Number of Y pixels) + 1078 bytes for the header.

Some paint programs could add more data to the tail of the file, for its own use.  This is not a violation of any kind, but it makes it difficult to error check the file when it is submitted.

Viruses also attach to the tail of bitmaps as well making them larger.

I did a right-click/properties on a 1024 res bmp that was converted to 256 colours and then saved using Bright and then another one converted and saved using Paint Shop Pro. In both cases it gives a file size of 1,049,654 bytes and a size on disk of 1,052,672 bytes. I'll try out the submissions page with a new skin this weekend.

That is the correct size for a 1024 x 1024, 8 bit indexed bitmap (1,049,654 bytes).  It should go in just fine.

I just successfully submitted a skin on the revised submissions page. This was created in Paintshop Pro and converted to 256 colours using Bright.

I did the same.   PSP with Brighter.   Accepted via the update tool.   :salute

Skuzzy,

Is there a way to allow an update to an update?   Once you submit a skin file for updating you can't go back and change it or put up a new file.   Example, I put in a main file and then a week later I wish to upload a Spec Map--can't do it.    Is there a way around this?

No, you cannot update an update.  You will have to wait until it is released.  I gave that a lot of thought, and there were too many can of worms in doing that.

About the best I can offer is to kill the submission before it is reviewed.

The entire system has been designed to expedite getting skins into the game in an accurate manner.  It does put the onus on the skinner for making sure the submission parts are all done when the skin is submitted.

If you kill it can I resubmit it this tour or do I have to wait?

My apologies.  I thought I could upload one file at a time.   <S>
