Independent cannon firing
« on: December 06, 2015, 11:42:40 AM »
I read an account recently from a Spitfire pilot in WW2 who described a kill where he took out a fleeing 109 by selecting and firing just one of his hispanos a round at a time at the target, which was out beyond 400 meters, and scoring hits by aiming above and to the side of the center of the sight.  Any chance we could that kind of selectable trigger?

Spitfire triggers had primary and secondary fire as far as I know. To fire one cannon you're wishing to model an on/off gun switch or circuit breaker.

It would be a circuit breaker pulled by the pilot to disable the other hispano. The actual firing of the guns caused by the rocker on the control column is a pneumatic system. The reason for the three pneumatic hoses on the back of control column.

We do that all the time in a P-38.
Do you really want this feature.  Lots of people would forget to switch it back to full guns.

Now you could use TARGET software if you have compatible joystick and have your trigger fire a single salvo from both guns then a delay.  That would save a bit of ammo.

The 190 with 30mm gondolas could switch off the 30mms separately as well, and R2 had the option to omit the 13mm's.
The A9 could also use the R4m air-to-air missiles.

My ammo last for 6 Lancasters, or one Yak3.

The standard wiring for german fighters separated gun groups and ord to be assigned to 3 buttons. The spitfire pilot in question had his second gun "disabled", I even read pulled out from one source. Which was not standard OP from the factory like Hitech ships his planes to us.

Standard wiring for Luft.
