Deacking a base with 88AA fire a bug?

I have noticed certain players deack bases with 88AA fire. Is this a bug or feature?

It's faster to use a tank.

Any time the knights have a field within 88 range of yours, you will find at least one of those bases lobbing 88mms over your base and targets exploding as they pass half a mile overhead.

I'm sure others have started to do it but I only notice it coming from knight bases.
