Rally freaks!
« on: January 27, 2016, 05:51:57 PM »
OK so I'm a bit of a rally buff, and a facebook friend of mine gave me a link to this crazy scandi flick master. Drives like a mad man in an old rusted out Toyota. I don't even see a roll cage or bar or anything! Just snow, ice and trees (and a pretty lady). What the *!!!* is wrong with these people!

Here he is on the Ring with the same banger Toyota!

Cressidas are cool.

I had a similar car but from nissan.

1984 maxima rear wheel drive with turbocharged straight six from a z car.

The wheels sourced from a 300zx with 225/50s.

It would burn tires forever and handled quite well since the suspension is from the Z car...........just a little more weight.......but not that much more.

Very lightly made for it's size.

Watch Dave MacDonald beat the world's best road racers in the 1963 L.A. Time Grand Prix.

Dave's style is tail out.... Rated the best Corvette racer in the country in 1962, Carroll Shelby hired him to race the new Cobra in 1963. He dominated, winning nearly every race Shelby brought the Cobras to. He helped build the Shelby/Lang King Cobras in early 1963. He then won the L.A. Times GP and the Monterey GP later than year. In the process, he beat the best in the world in the biggest, most prestigious road races in the USA. Only Jim Hall was faster in his Chaparral 2, but the was brand new and not yet reliable (but it dominated in '64 and '65).
Great video....

Driver's list for the L.A. GP in 1963...

That's the only choice they had, love the old gp footage. But to you op, there is nothing remotely sane or stable about rally drivers, nor the fans that watch from the MIDDLE OF THE ROAD! What is with those people? Not that being off the road is any better, they line the track like fleshy guardrails only closer.
But the world rally drivers are truly the best in the world behind the wheel, all racers aspire to that to truly show and test their skills, not just their funding skills.

Reminds me of my youth, Minnesota driving in winter! Exchange that car with a 1969 Buick, 3 on a tree, with a 455 olds and solid winter tires.  :old:

Carroll Shelby stated that, "Davie is the single most talented driver I've ever seen, and I've seen a few". Unfortunately, Dave died in a crash at Indy in 1964 while driving Mickey Thompson's death trap....

Here Dave drives a 320 hp 260 ci Cobra to the first ever win for a Cobra. Car SN CSX2026 (26th made).
