UDP/TCP lose update
« on: February 22, 2016, 07:16:39 AM »
So as some of you are aware I was having issues with my internet connection ( I was getting packet loss and being kicked out of the game continually.)
Well after much research and persistence I contacted my internet provided again ( I had spoken to them two times already and each time they tell me that everything is fine on their end and the modem looks to be functioning normally.)

RIGHT!

I called again and this time I mention that I am seeing the "online" light flicker on my modem.  The fine young man I was talking to took about 15 seconds to find out that my modem had been disconnecting and reconnecting approximately 150X over a 3 day period ( Ta-Da.)  Genius  I say.

So a tech comes out.  He takes one look at my modem and says that should have been changed months ago as they have been having continuing problems with this model since their software upgrade.  WHAT

I was informed that prior to the software upgrade my internet provider only had one port in and one port out, however due to high traffic it was getting clogged, so they upgraded to a 6 port in 4 port out setup.  Unfortunately my old modem did not like this new configuration and would continually lose connection to find an open port instead of just staying connected.  So a Brand New modem was installed and all of my problems have vanished.  You would think if they were aware of this issue (which the tech guy said they were) they would have found out who still had the old modem and then made arrangements to have them changed.

Moral of the story.  If you have done everything on your end to solve a computer problem and you call your internet service provider to see if there is an issue on their end, make sure they dig deeper than just a 5 second modem check and provide them with as much information as possible so they are able to locate the issue.

This has been my experience, and well like the old adage says " You learn from your mistakes."

As I tell everyone when they need to contact their ISP, "The first line of defense is to get you off the phone as fast as possible."  Their job is not to fix problems, but to see if they can get you to accept your current situation and move on.

Good for you, sticking with it until they finally accepted you actually had a problem.
