Since you have balanced torque in the P-38 you don't usually need to adjust aileron and rudder trim but elevator trim is useful and you only need one extra analog control on the throttle to control it. This will be useful for any aircraft that you might fly into compression.

One big advantage of the P-38L is it's ords carrying.  I use a thrustmaster cougar panel and the TARGET software to set salvo buttons so just by pushing a button I get the desired salvo.  Very useful.  They come in two packs but one will do.  Split a pack with a friend and the price is not bad.

As FLS noted, elevator trim, is nice feature.  Once you get used to manual elevator trim you will not want to go back to the stiffness of auto trim.

Two stage firing trigger is good for the 38 and other canon planes.   Pull the trigger halfway to use just the 50s, then full pull for the canon and 50s.

The cougar panel has press to hold, spring loaded rocker switches with a neutral center that is super for RPM setting which is very helpful for the 38 to save fuel.  Use E6B settings.

Make sure you have WEP easy to access.

hmmm

I currently have the aileron and elevator trims mapped to a pot, I had 2 available inputs so I thru in some older pots, never could get the hang of manual trimming. Its just constantly changing. But I can see where elev trim could be used in diving, I cut motor.....................

With new plane brain, I can use 8 pots. 4 pots are taken for basic flight axis, that leaves 4, for trimming, for engines, for ............................. ......?

The lawn dart thing is very easy to overcome.  Once mastered, it will never happen again.
All the other things listed can be turned to advantage at times.

The P-38 can defeat any plane in the game.  It's biggest problem is it is the choice of targets in the game so you will have to defend off twice the attacks over any other planes.  That too can work to your advantage too since people get fixated on the 38.

The P-38 is still the best plane in the game.

You mustn't have spent much time in P-39s, P-40s, P-47s, Zeroes, Spits, 110s or Mossies.  They all draw crowds as big or bigger.

I think I like the J model of the group best......................... .......

True, but in a group of planes, the larger, slower planes will be attacked first.  You probably do that yourself.  Many times I have used the P-38 to drag multiple planes away from a base we are about to capture.

Did you finish your Joystick and throttle?

Dual throttle will not improve anything except flying home damaged.
