"Award kill" versus "Shot Down" in the logs
« on: March 27, 2016, 05:25:57 PM »
Sometimes the log reads "Awarded kill as GameID crashes in a P-40E."

Sometimes it reads "Shot down a P-40E flown by GameID."

What is the official difference?

I assume that "Awarded" is a proxy, and "Shot" is an actual kill.

That has been my understanding. It has to do with the creative language they decided to use in the logs. "Bravely bailed" for ejecting and "Vanished without a trace" for disco.

Awarded kill as gameID crashes means you got a maneuver kill OR the pilot crashed or ditched due to damage after the fact.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Typical setting is that you have to be within 6000 feet for the maneuver kill to be counted.  This is variable but it is an FSO standard setting.

BTW, I am considering hosting a clinic for those that want to learn how to build custom arenas if I can get enough interest (and find the time).
