Two questions regarding AHIII
« on: April 05, 2016, 06:13:01 AM »
Firstly are there / will there be any changes to the flight models in the transition between AHII and AHIII?

Secondly, will there be a way to watch or make movies from AHII in its replacement?

AFAIK the flight model hasn't changed/won't change although the new default FOV can make you feel like it has changed.

The Film Viewer has always been version specific which means you'll have to keep an existing copy of AHII in your computer in order to view/edit AHII films.

FOV will change? That's how much breadth gets mapped onto your screen? Is there a way to set AHII to the same value?

Click the VIDEO SETTINGS link before you log in, you can enter your desired FOV between 45 and 180 degrees, or something like that. Default in AHII is like 72 degrees, I like 112 degrees, personally.

Nooby meant AHIII, not II.

Default in II is 106 if memory serves.  So it's just a matter of changing the FOV in AHIII to 106 and it should be like the original, except for the 15 degree down slope on your default view.

I don't have the downslope on the front view maybe because I brought across my AHII hps files, maybe because I'm using trackIR.  Not sure which.

Hitting the "home key" brings your head to where it is in AHII....F10 will save this...you have to do it on every plane...

Default FoV at a clean install is 80.

Unless Bizman manually set his to 74, that sounds like he checked the contents of a psave txt file for a FoV number. That FoV number is for the vertical FoV rather than the horizontal FoV I learned from Hitech. Although setting it to 60 will set a 100Mil reticle ring to 1.9inches (50mm) at 17.7 inches (450mm) correlating to real life. Two to three taps on the zoom in key will also.

Sometimes I wish the default zoom distance could be a change able setting from the clipboard. Say a percentage slider.

I stand corrected. My information was based on the reading in the video settings. The setting is on "automatic" and the grey box says 74. BTW does the monitor resolution affect it in any way? Mine is 2560 x 1600.

Resolution does not but aspect ratio does.

The FOV show in the horizontal FOV, the auto box maintains a constant vertical FOV.

So a 1920/1280 will be slightly different then a 1920 x 1080
But both will have the same vertical FOV.

Thank you!

So if I understood it correctly, my 2560 x 1600 shows a different FOV than a 2560 x 1440 would - rationalized down to 16/10 vs. 16/9?
