A real Swedish WWII hero has passed.
« on: May 09, 2016, 02:30:28 PM »
I sorry to report that Jan Danielsen died on April 30. in Örebro, Sweden. Before his death he was the last living Swedish WWII hero, and there weren't many to begin with. Danielsen was part of a group of about 300 Swedes who (illegally) volunteered to fight for my country against the German invaders. In 1939 he had also served in Finland as a volunteer fighting the Russians. When Norway fell he traveled on foot back to Sweden only to face a humiliating trial.

I had the honor of meeting this gentleman at the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Narvik, along with many other veterans who fought there. King Harald was also there and personally thanked Danielsen and other veterans on behalf of our country.

Here's a English language blog about that event with pictures:

Rest in peace Jan Danielsen, and thank you for your service.  :salute
