88 Squadron Boston
« on: May 27, 2016, 03:46:26 PM »

Apart from the default skin, which will be replaced in AH3, we don't have an RAF ETO brown/green Boston skin. So with that in mind I have done a new one. The AH Boston dates back to AH1 and is one of the oldest shapes still in the game. As such it has a very low poly count and a whole lot of mirroring, stretching and patching issues for a skinner to contend with, which is why the camo scheme is not very accurately painted in places. I think it looks OK all things considered though.

This Boston was part of 88 Squadron in mid to late 1942. This squadron had been sent to France at the outbreak of the war with Fairey Battles where one of its air gunners claimed the first RAF victory of the war. However like all Battle squadrons the unit suffered massive losses during the Battle of France and by mid-1941 had re-equipped with the Boston, flying sorties over occupied France. In late 1942 it took part in the disastrous Dieppe raid and then in 1944 laid the smoke screen that protected the first wave of landing craft during the Normandy invasion. Later the squadron returned to the European mainland where it fought until the end of the war.

Wow.  :x

This also means the Boston won't be updated this year. :(

Wow I find it hard to believe it has been almost 38 days since our last path. We should have release another 38 versions by now  :bhead

All this means is that the Boston won't be updated in AH III. I would be surprised if there weren't a couple more major updates with new rides before the year is out. Before they began working on this graphics update we used to get 3 or 4 of them a year.

No, no.  I'm fully aware that they are very busy right now.  I'm not harping or anything. :)  I use your skinning activity as a gauge of whether something is in the works in terms of a remodel/new aircraft. :D  I'm also under the impression that, as one of HTC's primary skinners, they will tell you that they are updating a model, so you don't burn time on the current model.  Not sure how exactly that works though. :headscratch:

Either way, for an older model, you made her look real good. :aok

Very nice!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!
