Nice!  Do you still have it?

- oldman

Sure do.....If there was ever a rifle that falls into the "from my cold dead hands" saying...that's the one. Dad gave it to me for Xmas 1981. Its a 99f. I also have a 99EG Post war 1947 Utica NY MFG in 300 Savage, untapped open sights but grooved for a Lyman adjustable peep....

One of these days im going to get an original 1895/1899mfg rifle (hopefully) at a price point that wont make my wife force me to sleep on the couch. (although I insisted when we bought the new couch it was really comfortable  :D #winning) For the last 35yrs  I've been collecting high end rifles.....Just like my father did when he was alive.

First pellet gun was a Daisy...I was 7 or 8...one of the ones you pump up...I broke it hitting a possum...things like that happen in the heat of battle...

First firearm I was 10...it was a Marlin .22 with a 7 shot clip my dad allowed me to use...it was mine to use but was his, until I decided to take it apart to clean...I watched the spring fly across the room and never could find it...then it was a single shot and it was really mine...with a long lecture about breaking his chit...

Few years after that I inherited a pair of 20 gauge mossbergs...a bolt action with clip and a pump action that I use to this day...

First firearm I bought...I was 15 and bought my dad a 15 shot tube fed Marlin .22 off a cousin of ours...and it of course was mine to use but it was his...it was the only gun I was able to buy him before he died...

My grandsons are presented with a Marlin or Savage .22 when they reach the age of 12 or 13, depending on my opinion of their maturity. Prior to that we spend time either on a regular range (Sheriff opens it to public twice a week) or in the back yard using pellet guns or 22 shorts / quiet into a metal target holder backstop. If they do not handle and treat the weapon to MY satisfaction they don't get one.

My granddaughters are also given the option, a rifle like their brothers or a high end sewing machine, their choice.

I inherited a Springfield .22 single shot just like the one below as soon as I was big enough to pick it up.  Probably 6-8 years old.  I sill have it.  My brother had a Remington .22 multi shot that I used a lot and occasionally I'd grab Dad's Savage 30/30.  The buckhorn sights were cool.

Beretta 92FS 9mm, Italian-made with the straight lower frame "dust cover" (they taper some now).

Although my parents bought numbers-MATCHING U.S. Border Patrol Commemorative .357 Magnums for we kiddos long before I could even pick one up.  Maybe that's my true first.

FIXED.   Stupid typos..

First gun I shot was my Papa's gun from when he was a kid, an old springfield .22 bolt action rifle.  I packed that from the time I was about 4 until I was 7 then he moved me up to a .270 winchester which I bagged my first deer with.  My first gun I purchased is a Savage 110 30-06...  Not a bad rifle and easily manageable by the girliest of girls when shooting 165's...  but throw some Hornady light magnum rounds in there and it can pack quite the punch (superperformance now or whatever they call them)   :rock
