GTX 960 for AH3?

How should it perform with AH3?

I would like a 1070 but the consensus seems to be it's more than will be needed for AH3 and it will be more than I want to spend. I've been thinking of picking up a 970 when the price drops which still may be the best option. I saw this and it got me wondering if it will runs AH3 at default settings.

I have a Radeon 6950 now that does pretty well in AH3 if I leave shadows disabled but I suspect when there are more players and a lot of action my FPS will plummet. The 960 looks like it should outperform the  6950.

Is anyone familiar with this card?

I'm using brand new 960 4G with AH3 playing on all settings to maximum besides two things

1. Trees set to minimum as they hurt fps too much
2. Environmental mapping 1 notch

Resolution 1080p

I have steady 59-60fps that drop to +-40 at heavy situation
Online works as well as offline but had never been in very heavy fight

Also if I have 50 players taking off simultaneously I got below 60 in Ah2 as well

Also note I did quite brief testing with only about an hour online and maybe 2-3 offline

I like it as it both works well and on the budget

If I was you I would wait. Why rush in and get an "ok" card when in a few months the 970 will be much lower. It's not like they are going to release AH3 this week or anything.

What Fugi said. The 960 should run AH3 reasonably well, but since the game is still under construction, why hurry. Any new card will be old at the moment you take it out of the store, so patience is now your best friend concerning AH3.

Thanks. Not ready to rush. I gave the price at New Egg as an example but wasn't planning to buy right away. Just wondering about the 960 vs the 970. I want better than reasonably well.

Another possibility is to wait for the AMD Radeon RX480.  It will not compete with the GTX 1080, or even the 1070, but rumors indicate it should have about the performance of a GTX 980 yet only cost $200 (for the 4GB version).

I have the GTX970, PERFECT. Far superior than the 960.
