AvA Beta Arena
« on: June 19, 2016, 02:58:07 PM »
We're going to install a weekly setup in the Beta AvA arena again and see if we can't provide a good experience with the new game engine. I'll also be manning the arena for a couple of hours Monday through Thursday nights starting this Monday night. Until I can get with an AH Trainer, I won't be providing much of a fight so be gentle.

The first Weekly setup will be the Channel Battles detailed in the next post. It will be setup mid-day Monday.

On Tuesday nights at 9pm EST, I'll be setting up an 8th AF bomber event. The 8th AF setup will continue each Tuesday night for at least 4 weeks. After that it will be evaluated for attendance and a decision will be made whether to continue, so if you like this sort of thing, then bring your friends. I'll be right behind the lead bomber. The avaeto terrain provides a 20k airspawn for quicker action. I'm hoping some of the dedicated bomber squads will help generate the interest in both escorts and interception.

On Thursday nights, the Thursday Night Tank fights are expected to continue in the Beta AvA while Monday Night Madness will still be running in the AH2 AvA. Keep in mind that while an AvA staff member will usually be there for the fun, he may or may not be present for all of these so come into the arena and the other players will show up to kill you, those no good bastages.
Easy in-game again.

Starting Monday week of 20 June -
Channel Battles, July, 1940

The Channel Battles

10 July to 11 August 1940: Kanalkampf, ("the Channel Battle").

The Kanalkampf comprised a series of running fights over convoys in the English Channel and occasional attacks on the convoys by Stuka dive-bombers. It was launched partly because Kesselring and Sperrle were not sure about what else to do, and partly because it gave German aircrews some training and a chance to probe the British defenses. In general, these battles off the coast tended to favor the Germans, whose bomber escorts massively outnumbered the convoy patrols. The need for constant patrols over the convoys put a severe strain on RAF pilots and machines, wasting fuel, engine hours and exhausting the pilots, but eventually the number of ship sinkings became so great the British Admiralty cancelled all further convoys through the Channel. However, these early combat encounters provided both sides with experience. They also gave the first indications some of the aircraft, such as the Defiant and Bf 110, were not up to the intense dog-fighting that would characterize the battle.

Even though I'm anxious to do the follow on, this one didn't get a chance to run what with the server issues, so I'm going to let it run another week.
Starting today, Thursday, June 23 and running the rest of this week and next until Tuesday July 5th, it's Channel Battle.

I've opened up a couple more fields after noticing some people like blowing stuff up while waiting for someone else to come in. A182 is nearest to Antwerp and has 110s and a Stuka. Go blow up the marshalling yard and the (1945) Allied Supply Depot at North Antwerp. Enjoy.

All the toys are included in the terrain again!

Now that everything is working again, I can concentrate on fixing the city ground. Use zoom in the meantime to hide the water.

Edit for days of the week

Oh, and someone please post some screen shots!
