Hi Guys . . .

I know this is way off topic, but I am going to give it a shot anyway.

I have put up a new business page on facebook and would really appreciate if I could get a handful of fellow gv'ers and pilots to take a look at it and give it some likes. From what I understand I need to get likes in order to get more advantages/opportunities for this business page so I am asking for a bit of help here.

The page is at facebook/sharpstuff4guys so if some of you could help me out with this new business venture, I would really appreciate it.

I am only looking to get some likes . . . nothing else and this will be the only time I will post anything like this here on HTC.

Many thanks in advance . . .

Just so you know, if you have a page on facebook it is not a website. You have a facebook page. Websites reach many more folks and can have much more information.

Hmmm... Although I don't advertise myself in FB, I do have a website and I can understand the benefit of having a FB account.

As Shuffler said, an FB page is not a website.

I'd recommend getting a real website to which you can refer to in your FB page. That would be like having a building (site) and signs leading to it (FB). Doing it that way adds flexibility. Your site would tell the hard facts like what's your business, what you're doing, where you're at, how to reach you. The FB page would be for less serious stuff like some funny incidents, your current project (and the previous current one, and the predecessor of it and so on in the time line), links to things that interest you either professionally or just for fun (like AH).

Facebook is a "look at me" thing, a website should tell the people why.

Thanks for the replies and just so that everybody knows, there is a website . . . and there is a FB page. I had no intention of promoting the site and giving someone the idea I was spamming the forum. Maybe if ya'll had actually looked at the FB page you would have seen links back to the website in several of the posts. Maybe my original post here wasn't specific enough, but again, it was just an attempt to gather a few likes.

Meatwad . . . I am not a big fan of FB either, but everything I have read about promoting a new mainstream business/website says you must include all the social media - FB, Twitter and who knows - so I am giving that a shot. If it don't look its doing any good after a couple of weeks, then I'll just drop it and concentrate on SEO.

I beg your pardon, Shuffler, but having a website does not mean that it reach lots of folks. It takes promotion and ranking to generate traffic and reach people. FB is but a small step in reaching more folks.

Bizman . . . as I said in the beginning of this post, there is a website. I might be old and maybe not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but it would be foolish to put the cart before the horse.    LOL

And while it is still a work in progress, the website is at www.sharpstuff4guys.com

Anyway, I appreciate your comments - especially considering how off-topic this is - and I look forward to killing each of you on the battlefield. :salute

Like Meatwad, I don't go to facebook.

My website gets quite a lot of looks, though. It seems to be well optimized for the search engines.

A facebook page is a good gateway to your website, if it's well promoted and gathers a decent following. Make sure you include your area if it's a local business, so it can be seen by others in the same city/area.

I'm pretty well connected through facebook, and I've seen a lot more websites and businesses through their facebook than if I were searching for popular websites. (Rogue Dynamics, great bunch of people, but probably wouldn't show up on a google search unless specifically looking for them.)

Having both I would say is ideal. I trust a business with an actual website AND a facebook page, more than one with ONLY a facebook page.

We have a website and a FB page also. No personal FB account for me just the business. Works well for certain things, we sponsored a Susan G Komen event each  year and they blast both site and FB.

I will certainly like your page. Gold luck

I am about 10 years behind, but I am trying to figure out how exactly to promote both the FB page and the website and it a real PITA trying to separate the garbage from the good stuff.

Bizman . . . good to hear your website gets the traffic. Sooner or later I will figure some of this stuff out.  LOL

WOW Wezel . . . I appreciate it. Didn't see that one coming.    LOL

Thanks again ya'll . . .

I have been working on websites for years. I doubt you can tell me anything I do not know about building them or promoting them. It sure doesn't require so called social media.

Whoever told you that you must include all social media is a few cards short of a fulleck.

I can only laugh at those who beg for fake likes and those that pay for fake likes. Social media based on cheat code. LOL.

Have fun on what they call social media...... It is anti social in reality.

We feel Lindy has a good head on her shoulders for this position, as there is just something about her we cannot quite put our finger on....
But, what do they know right?  :rofl
