The 325th VFG isn't an AXIS squad but were on it this scenario. Have to say we all had a blast last night. internal conversations and AAR comments for 30 minutes after the frame.
Set up seems pretty fair and the new point system works! By my count an AXIS win but by a very very narrow margin meaning a tie. My recommendation leave it like it is and run all 3 frames and then see what we got. My observation is that the point system change did effect game play in how the missions were planned and executed, for the most part. Positive outcomes.
For me the one main big battle starting 50 miles out from A67 is what keeps me coming back week after week. Flying around for 45 minutes is worth while as long as there is a 15 min running gun battle at the end and not a 30 sec fight and its over.
ALLIES did a great job of getting their force package to A67. An awesome sight watching and maneuvering against a huge swarm of bombers and fighters all moving in a formation. By my count about 40 bombers being escorted by about 40 fighters Then all of the reporting and commands and counter commands that happen during those last few minutes before you stop calculating and start figuring out which guy your going to kill first
The P40s and P39 did a really good job of protecting the 25C's. I got in 2 pass's and then got driven off for good. Kudos to those squads.
On the AXIS side great discipline and reading of the new rules and not attacking anything that didn't score points. Plus maneuvering into position and not all diving on the P-39 deception attack early to A67
I would recommend a plane set change:
The point system now favors a "Kill the Bomber first" plan of attack. The M3 Zero's are not matched to do that. In a fighter engagement wouldn't mind them but since the fighters are worth 0 points why fight them? Going forward would recommend that the future plane sets for either side favor bomber killing capability's in the oppsite sides fighters. The same issue we deal with in the BOB scenario when Hurri MKI's have to dump nearly all of their ammo into 1 bomber to drop it. Understand the setup and time period. But for us cartoon guys that pay a few bucks a month to play, flying around in slow AC that cant catch the bombers nor have a fair chance of shooting one down isn't fun and effects turnout. So when tasked to fly an obsolete AC that really cant effect the outcome of the game that isn't very motovating to the guys in the squad and there isn't any way to sugar coat that either. Just saying....
Changes to the targets:
The boat targets continue to be a side show at best. Drop the boats all together and give the ALLIES another large airfield to attack. Place them fairly close to each other for mutual but separate support, meaning after the attacks the CIC's can shift personnel and there is a focused point for the late framer "I gotta kill someone - pilots".
Overall good scenario. Needs a few tweaks. WarHwk <S>
