B-17 and B29 takeoff test
« on: August 21, 2016, 12:42:22 PM »
I tested random bases on SFMA, Crater and Euro2015.

At 50% fuel using auto takeoff the 29 failed to take off on all runways tested with exception of A1 on the crater map that sits higher than the surrounding land.  As a side note.  Earl, if I remember right, has always said said use no flaps on b29 takeoff.  I was able to manual take off on some runways with no flaps.

In much earlier testing the b17 had problems above 50% fuel but I do not remember the earlier map that wee used.  On the maps I tested today, with 75% fuel the B17 had no problems on the bases I tested.

It would be good to have other players post which map, airport and runway if they hit trees.

A19 SFMA map taking off west B17 50% fuel.  One or both drones crashed on different tries.

I have found that the drones just drag the ground and go through the trees till they become airborne. Odd looking but it is what it is.

In this case there is a slight rise to clear.  The lead clears with no problem but the drones do not.

Same problem 2 days ago with Mossy formation. I noticed on a steep climb out I lost my drones.  So, I re-launched, tried again, but with a less steep angle of ascent.  Lost them again.  Kept at it.... no matter how slow of an ascent I had, the drones never followed me.  they kept level until finally running into trees.
