Trying to find old squad logo - Flying Pigs maybe?
« on: August 29, 2016, 12:24:16 PM »
It showed a large scale pigs head with flying cap and googles, stubble-beard, chompin' on a stogie.  I think he was leaning out through the surrounding ring border.

And I *think* the squad's motto was something like, "Oink! Oink! To War!"    I don't think it was assoicated with today's Pigs On The Wing, but I could be mistaken about that.  I remember reading somewhere the founding members of the squad hired an artist to create the logo, and it showed.  Very nice work, one of the all-time best I think.  I thought I had it saved somewhere but can't find it, and my internet searches are turning up zilch...

That was from "The Flying Pigs".  We commissioned that artwork back around 1998 if I recall correctly.  I'm not sure where you might find a copy.  We had an abandoned website out there for a while but the hosting company finally took it down.

If I had to guess why its hard to find, it is because we had a copyright notice posted wherever we used that logo, so it may have not gotten archived by the usual internet search engines.

We had at least 2 logos we used widely, one more colorful and cartoony with the pig shooting a machine gun or something, and the more artistic one with the stogie and maybe saluting.

You might be able to find the abandoned website at https://archive.org/web/ if you know the address.

Ah, thanks guys.

Eagl, sorry to hear it, hope somebody has a copy somewhere.  One of the best squad logos out there, IMO.  Bizman, I did a search on that wayback machine using FlyingPigs.com, and didn't find a page with the image.  But thanks for suggestion.

I hope the Flying Pigs make an appearance in AH3.

Rip, always good to hear from you, sir!    Have moved away from the the North Star state now and live along Colorado's Front Range.  Almost forgot what a skeeter looks like  :lol

That's it!!  Dunno how I missed it!  Big thanks!

EDIT:  I just searched on the wayback machine using FlyingPigs.com and TheFlyingPigs.com and while I get a page of links, they don't seem to be related to the squad...<shrug>

No but he hired Smut for Janes F-15 and Janes F-18.

Those patches are the official ones :)  I found the blue cartoony one on my computer in an old archive folder, couldn't find the others.  I think there was also a line art version of the saluting pig if I recall correctly, and that was also very well done.

flyingpigs.com was what I used. Notice that there's a gap between 2008 and 2014. Highlight a year between 1998 and 2008 for some more memorabilia.

Greetings and salutations! Funny to run into this thread while looking for the latest on AH3. The round pig logo was done by one of the artists at Jane's based on an idea I had. The Christmas version I think was a Snak modification of the original.

As for me, I went back to Pax River after EA closed the Baltimore office and our own little studio failed to gain traction. Had a wife and kid to support, so back to the DoN I went. Playing World of Warships quite a bit (as Smutacus, since plain old Smut either wasn't available or not allowed). I'm tempted to get back into AH, certainly have the rig for it. What I'm missing is my reflexes from 20 years ago, lol.
