Same 'ol tree thing
« on: October 04, 2016, 03:32:44 PM »
It's almost like the rain forest here. No place to ditch if you have to. (I have had to on several occasions). None were successful, no place to land.  I think HT is taking Al Gore to seriously. Please get rid of trees, a bunch of trees. Thank you.

Bring up your clipboard and make sure your 'end sortie'  is green and not red for a clean landing.  If it's red prepare for a 6k jaunt away from enemy GVs and planes.  This was a really great feature as it lets you kknow you can't land succesfully.

As for the trees they can be a curse or blessing.  A blessing hiding from planes or a camper, but a curse if you're in a fast gv trying to get troops to a town.

I think shilo means he cannot land a plane without hitting a tree and going 'boom.'

Are you serious?
I admit, I haven't been in the game for a while, but trees and bushes are/were a part of the game.

I've seen plenty of people ditch out in the wilderness.

I landed on a V base with my pony, it wasn't pretty, but I got a good landing.

I have landed on V bases before. What I am saying is that with an engine not turning the prop, I have glided for miles without seeing a clearing to ditch in. I know the distance from enemy to have a safe ditch. My problem is running out of speed and lift to clear any trees. We had trees in AH II, but this crazy.

Maybe change your outlook on it? Consider it simulating the hopelessness of your eventual virtual demise in a cruel world where trees are the top of the food chain, where the grass really is greener on the other side if only you could find it.

Ive been able to fly into the lighter ground objects without exploding.  Maybe the same ones tanks can drive through.

I have ditched a couple of times in small clear areas then hit trees and got a good ditch.  IN AH3 the ditch speed is more critical than AH2.  The slower the better.

I consider finding that perfect field part of the challenge, but I'm waiting on AH3 until I get home from the other side of the world.  :aok

A competent CO would have trees cleared on and around a base to afford a clearer field of fire..

LOL you're right. I had posted this pic before in another thread of my Light Infantry Company in a forested area in '68 by Tay Ninh at the Cambodian border for reference to some tree density.  I can't remember how much det-cord and c4 it took to blow that small clearing so the supply slicks could winch down supplies and take out wounded, but it took a bunch.
