Default Clipboard location for AH3 startup in VR
« on: October 04, 2016, 12:20:32 AM »
Howdy :salute

I use the HTC Vive

Over all I'm loving the VR experience of AHIII with some minor drawbacks (but they are largely easy to adapt to or work with for the gain of the experience).

Biggest issue for me right now: The clipboard. Currently when launching AHIII in VR mode the clipboard spawns close to six inches from the users face. One can push the clipboard further back but the user needs to hold the VR controller very close to their face to click the pushback button in the top right corner. Simple solution would be some way of editing the clipboards default position that the client will retain for each future program launch.

Why this may be happening (but untested) is that the clipboard location is set to a specific vector close to the defined border of the VR user in the direction of their controls. If this is true then adjusting the playing space to extend further ahead may help but this could cause trouble with other VR games if not reset separately from AHIII use - for those who do not know, the user must "draw" a play space boundary for their HTC vive so that a program or game will know what space you can move to in the real world and will not send you off into your tables/desks/computer towers.

If the clipboard is set up to spawn relative to the saved game head position then perhaps there's a way we can edit a text file to adjust the clipboard's default coordinates?

Thanks for reading

Same problem exists in the CV hanger. It looks like you're zoomed in and can't zoom back. Also, in the CV hanger the clipboard won't move back.

Also except for the tile screen , all other times the clip board should stay where you put it between game play sessions. Is this not happening?

Are you useing the finger GUI? Or the dot/screen center GUI?

HiTech :salute

The clipboard does remember where it was pushed to while still in the program and going betweeb hanger/tower, and I think even when switching servers. Believe it only resets after relaunch of the exe, I'll reply to this thread should I find this to be contrary to what I am stating once I get home tonight.

I am using the Finger GUI (but I control planes with pedals/srick/throttle set up).

I have launched the program in VR mode with my VR controlers off and the clipboard is in the same place.

I'll post some ideas in a new thread later on for improving the GUI set up for VR with some other minor issues. Glad to help with the VR in any way I can, I sincerely appriciate your quick support for this playstyle option!

Default Clipboard location Improved but VR chatbox in bad location

MUCH better Clipboard placement, HiTech :aok

IMPORTANT NEW ISSUE: With the changes to the VR sphere the chat window now defaults to a position directly beneath the player, at a weird angle, requiring the user to try and read at a strange angle. Adjusting the sphere size changes the chat box's depth so that it is possible to "grab and drag" it to a more reasonable location, but it does requires a lot of awkward adjustments.
EDIT: the good news is that the game is currently saving the chat box location after exiting the game so at least this adjustment doesn't have to be made for every play session!

The local/channel radio roster is also appearing directly above the pilot's head (this was the case before but isn't a big issue).

I appreciate the efforts made! Over all the new sphere changes have made it easier to read and type in the input/channel select window and a lot of other minor improvements.

The window placements are not the default, but do to the change that made the windows bigger. With a clean install thats not where they would apear.
