USB Microphone Causes Stutters
« on: October 20, 2016, 08:23:00 AM »
I purchased the HyperX Cloud II headset, and since the 3.5mm cord isn't long enough to reach the PC, I used the 3.5mm/USB adapter to get it going.  Windows recognizes it as HyperX 7.1 Audio (Generic USB device).

Every time I pressed the transmit key the game would freeze for a fraction of a second.  Every time I'd release the transmit key, the game would freeze for a fraction of a second.  This was 100% of the time.

When using the onboard Realtek soundcard, which uses the 3.5mm jacks, I do not have any freezes related to vox.

Passing the info along for you guys.

Similar issue for me, using usb web-cam mic.
The game will freeze once I release the transmit key.

Micro-freeze on releasing here, too, using a mixer with integrated USB audio.

What's confusing though is that the freeze on release also occurs if the USB device isn't even selected as input (or output). Just being plugged in is enough to cause the freeze.

Behringer FCA1616 USB (not using Firewire at the moment) has no such issue.

I haven't tried that.
I'll see if that does it with me too.

I also tested offline, and it happens just the same.

Got me thinking that maybe the latest webcam issues with W10 may contribute here also. I have one of these plugged in all the time, but I don't use the mic on it.

Any USB device will use some resources no matter if it's used or not. If nothing else, the system will check every once in a while if the device is alive and present. I suppose that even if the device or a part of its features is disabled in the Device Manager it still shows in the power usage charts of the system. Services like diagnostics, plug-and-play and HID are most likely actively keeping an eye on those.

I see the freezes on W7.
Also, they don't occur in AH2 or other games.

While the W10 webcam issue might be contributing, it cannot be the sole cause.

It isn't. I disabled the webcam by unplugging it and stutters still occur. I'm looking at power management and maybe USB now.

EDIT: And nothing. Unless there is something in the MB settings I don't think it's a USB power issue.
