What you may be seeing is distorted reflections in the cockpit bubble.  The static photos are hard to tell.

Are you running the DX9 or DX11 version of the game?
Do you have reflections disabled or enabled?

You get it even if you are not using a cockpit. Say for instance, from a Jeep.

I think this effect is more noticeable with Nvidia, which has been plagued with color banding problems for some time. The only way to fight it is with dithering in the program itself, so "they" say.

You can try several methods including those mentioned on this page to try to eliminate banding, but it is usually created by a combination of the game (or any program), the OS, and your monitor or even cables.

(EDIT): Sorry, meant to say AMD cards don't have as much of this issue.

Looking back through my vids...didn't have this issue with same video card and old MB and CPU.

It was only after the fact that I noticed it. Maybe its a 4k issue....I'll run 1080p and see if that fixes it.

Skuzzy, reflections "mask" the stirations, but they are still there.  DX11, but the same issue is in DX9.

Chalenge=been through that page ad nausem:) Has some good stuff though...and do have a better picture because of it. I don't see any gradient issue on their gradient scale....go figure.

Thanks for the help...and I'll let you know if I figure it out.

You are using a television, right?  Are you certain it is not acting on the screen content?

Would it show on my videos if it was my TV? I've watched the vids on my monitor, and still see the issue.

I would think if it was a display issue it would not show up in the vids.

I have messed around with the settings for two days TV and Nvidia...but no luck.

Appears I've had them all along...looking back at the youtube vids...reflections were just masking them:)

I took a short video last night at twilight..no stirations/gradient issues.  Only when uniform sky color do I see them. Even clouds make it go away.

You can see around the horizon no issue...but as I look forward & UP you see the gradients kick in...

YouTube, so you are probably using h.264 level 4.0, so it may look a little better at level 5.1, or 5.2? You can maybe tweak it to make the water banding ease up a little. It is always going to look worse in a video than when you are actually online playing, or worse yet streaming.

Dobs, I need an untouched, uncompressed screenshot, directly from the game, created with ALT-S, showing the issue you are talking about.

We managed to get it.

Now,..most of those images are going to need a pointer to show us what you are talking about.  We can barely make out one small area in one of the photos, but we really are straining and not sure that is what you are talking about.

I am going to load each one in Photoshop and take the eye dropper around them to see if I can find what you are talking about.

They are definitely fainter on my monitor than my TV.

Here are two with "traces" around the bands....the one which has short lines is showing where they start...they go out to each side and follow the contour of the longer lines.

The weird one with a center dot is water from 30k...was afk while the plane climbed:)
