I go up last night and get two kills off a swarm of bad guys, with lots of flying back and forth clearing the sixes off fellow knights, and vice-versa.
I dive into a swarm of bad guys to clear someone and get hit by a Corsair who knocks out my engine. Luckily I have lots of speed and am pointed towards a friendly base, so I head home.
It's about a full sector back, and the enemy, seeing my black plume of smoke and dropping airspeed, come after me, but my six keeps getting cleared by fellow Knights. This goes on for what feels like a very long time. Finally, I'm clear of all enemies except the Corsair who'd hit my engine - he follows me as I finally make it into the base ack.
I glide over my base, the Corsair on my six, I jink, then break hard right to bleed speed and keep him in the ack.
It works - he breaks left and I'm clear, with just enough speed to drop flaps and glide onto the tarmac.
I scrape to a stop.
Then I hear someone say on R/T, "I see a couple werbels at our base..."
Then I hear rounds impacting my plane, and before I can click on END MISSION, I'm dead.
