Wi-Fi connection and everybody complains of me warping.

I just moved in to a new place. The home owner downstairs has a SHAW Wi-Fi. I bought a DLINK USB adaptor and connected to the 5G network. All is ok but on Net Status I get a variance delay of 1 second that shows up every 15 seconds or so.

My end seems ok but every player I run across says I warp.

I run Win XP btw.

Very discouraged.

However, one thing is really annoying me: the Variance in Delay plot has a 1 second burp that appears like clockwork exactly every 70 seconds (see attached image)

Don't know how to fix that, but that 1 sec delay will cause your warps.  For many years my choices were dial-up and satellite.  Satellite was unusable for Aces High play because of the large latency (delay).  I now have access to and use Verizon wireless and it is expensive, but generally works very well.  I live in the mountains and need a signal booster to get a decent signal.  I suspect someone in this community will have some ideas for you....  Good luck getting it squared away!

WiFi is an issue, too. Plus you really can't tell how many other users the network has. By users I mean the downstairs people, their cellphones, tablets, tv's, toasters, fridge, whatever you can connect wireless to the Internet through the router. Supposedly there's no way to get wired to the router? Drilling a hole through your floor to their ceiling is out of question, but a powerline adapter might work.

I would like to connect to the router with a line yes. As for other users in the house, not that many. Just the one person and they are not online much.

Powerline adaptor? what would that do?

They make adapters which you plug into an outlet. You plug in an ethernet cord into the one by the router, then plug another adapter in the room with your computer and then run an ethernet cable from that to your computer.

...I switched router positions so the router is upstairs and the other PC downstairs is on Wi-Fi now. My connex is solid . I think that will work <whew>.

Your post led me to think about a greedy landlord renting his windy attic "including Internet" for a ridiculous price, no pets, no females, no noise after 10 PM...

Anytime you can get off a WiFi connection, it is a win.  No matter how good a WiFi connection is, it will never be as good as a wired connection.

FWIW, while I don't game off the "power line adapter" setup, I have my smart TV downstairs hooked up to one, and an additional acces point to provide coverage to my wifes studio.   So far so good...once I got the access point to stop thinking it should handle DHCP.

Glad you could move the modem/router...its the ONLY way to go for me:)  First thing in every house.....
Me: "I need modem set up here."
Cable guy: "Well, the modem is going downstairs."
Me: "I don't think we are communicating....the modem is going here. Oh, and I want a splitter where it comes in the house for the modem for the phone. Phone modem won't be in here."
Cable guy "Going to have to run wires....."
Me: "Did I mention I want the modem set up here?"

Some guys just do it, some guys don't want the extra work.....but based on the business model of the customer is always right, they all end up making it happen.

FOCUS on Variance/Latency this is what is likely the cause of the problem you're posting about "WARPING".
You can connect anyway in the world, with a Monster signal but if you have excessive Latency then it's for nothing.
Signal and Latency are not necessarily related.

Yeah I just checked from my wifi which is pretty decent and it's still rocky.
