can't see hangars till too late
« on: December 06, 2016, 08:05:36 PM »
Just want to make sure this is correct and not system dependent. With the ground detail slider all the way to the right 3miles, I cannot see any hangars or other airfield targets until it is too late. This is from 10K. Is this how it works now? You need to have the map out to identify the fuzzy 2d blobs untill when the cross hairs are almost over the target it pops into view? Or is it my system, or another setting?

I can bomb from 20k and have no problem picking out individual buildings.

Do you have Anti-allisin on in the graphics settings? This could be why you may be seeing fuzzy blobs.

Game time of the day has a lot to do with it and the map itself.

Are saying you cannot see it in the bomb sight once the calibrated bomb site picks up the field?

Is your gamma setting at default in the game?  I know some players raise gamma when game turns turns to night time.

Yup! What fugi said. The anti alias could have alot to do with it. For me, i line up bomb runs from way out. Of coarse I have a custom map to help line up earlier. If you are off a wee bit in here, you can easily miss your drop. Only advice I can give you, is to go to offline and practice. If you change field 90 to bishops, you can air spawn in. Safe the frustration of constantly climbing to altitude. The change of field thing is so that low level practice runs wont get you shredded by AA

I line up using the nose gun position. You can see the hangars from much further out. It is difficult from the bomb sight. I can usually see enough detail of the base from the nose gun position when I enter the dar ring.
Balrog in game. Some day my performance may justify the name. LOL

In Lancs, you can still press "8" (on num pad) while in bombsight/F6 and line up as well. Think the biggest hurdle is the different design of fields? Thanks to 8thjinx and others we now have Clipboard maps. The hangers still look as they always did, just different placement.

There does appear to be a change in the outside view of the world.  I have film, that showes views of the early release of AH3, airfields.  from 14K you can identify the airfield, and it's layout, position of hangers, guns, radar.  Now I have the same type of field from 14K and you can't makeout anything.  that's with the last patch.

I don't have an anti aliasing. I think it is probably just that it is so different from AHII. My graphics are so terrible that it also might be that the transition from fuzzy to being able to see buildings is more sudden than with better settings. For me it looks like a flat area of land with fuzzy sort of runway shapes and SPROING! buildings pop into existence on top of the fuzzy flat space. Zooming is sort of on off: zoom in SPROING! zoom out REVERSE SPROING!. It doesn't feel as real as AH2 did but that might just be my low settings.

I'm not talking about views in AH2, I'm comparing  views of a small airfield from 14K in AH3 production release that I recorded in video and I'll call it video1 to views of a small airfield from 14K in AH3 after the latest release patch, I'll call that video2.  I haven't changed any settings.  I run it as it was delivered.  Video1 shows much more detail than video2 at 14K.

Right I understand. I wasn't commenting on your comment but on what it is like on my end. Question: does your video 1 seem substantially different from what AH2 was like in the aspect of being able to identify object on base from altitude?

No, as far as detail from alt.  At first I thought that AH3 looked pretty much the same as AH2 as far as detail from Alt.  My wingman last Saturday evening  mentioned to me that the detail clarity appeared to have diminished.  My wingman was wondering if perhaps with the latest patch, some default setting may have been changed???

I have noticed that it changes some what, depending on what map it is. Some terrains have a more prevalent fog type layer. Seems that maps, Buzzsaw for example, the map icons dont seem to match up with plane icons on map. Seems by icon you are right over field but its not that close when you start looking around. With AH3's one size fits all view mode, it takes a bit more planning to line up correctly. Its not as jump in,climb out and visually line up from the Radar ring. At least we still have the easy mode calibration :aok
