Base cap not registered

Does a base cap not register if you die before the troops cap the base?  I captured a vehicle base yesterday but was killed before the troops made it in.  The capture never made it to my records even though I was the only friendly in the area.

No, you have to be alive to get credit for it, just like with all other stuff (bombing, killing) in AH.
