Keys Routinely Stop Working
« on: January 21, 2017, 07:15:48 AM »
Hello,

In AH3 I am having routine severe issues with keys locking up.  I use a mouse BTW not a joysick.  I have an NVidia GeForce GTX 770 vid card.  Windows 10.  8gb RAM.  High end new-ish PC (bought in the last year).  Ran AH2 flawlessly.

Some of the keys that lock up are: the views (looking left, right etc. AKA number pad keys), when bringing up clipboard the Insert\Delete (to zoom in\out) keys stop working many times.

When coming back from being Alt-Tab, in some instances, all keys non-functional for up to 2 minutes.  This never happened in AH2.  Just to be 100% clear - the keys stop working when not Alt-Tabing.  This was just a related FYI.

Thanks for looking into this.  Great job on AH3 otherwise guys.

EDIT: I wish I could find a cause and effect on this.  Something to help you debug it better.  There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to it though.  No pattern. It wont happen for 3 sorties then happen the next 3.  Happens during low number game times and high number user game times.  Does not seem related to app running on my PC either.  Not running any kind of virus checker during game time etc.

Well, first off, this is most likely an issue with YOUR system, not the game. If it was the game, with hundreds of people playing it there would have been a lot more people posting about this issue.

A couple things to look into. Be sure your keyboard is plugged in well to the computer. They do loosen up if the box gets moved/knocked about.

You might want to try another keyboard if you have an old one lying around, yours may be dying.

With it being so intermittent it might be hard to narrow down unless you do a lot of typing and work with your number pad in say "word" or some other program.

Also, just as a note, AH2 and AH3 are completely different games and can only be compared with that both have planes in them. AH2 was very dependent on the CPU, were as AH3 puts to load on the graphics card instead.

As for the keyboard, if yours is plugged into a USB port, it might just be running out of juice if your gaming controllers get a sudden thirst. Just a wild guess, though.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Are you using a wireless keyboard?  You didn't say.   I do and sometimes have a problem with it not recognizing keystrokes - though this occurs outside AH as well,

I moved this to Technical Support forums as the game has no control over this particular aspect of a computer.  Keyboard input is handle by the operating system, on behalf of any given application.

Windows 10 does not see to recognize games running on them, so it powers down various aspects of a computer, when it is not being used.

The USB power management is quite bad.  Make sure you disable any power management for the USB bus.

Also look for other programs, running on the computer, which could be taking the keyboard focus away from the game (programs with hot keys are a source of this type of issue).

Yes it is.

All your suggestions are great.  Another reason this game is so good is the community.  Thanks everyone for your posts.  :salute

I think you guys are on to something.  It may have been the batteries in the keyboard.  Testing...

Oh, wireless, then all bets are off.  Make sure power management for that keyboard transceiver is disabled!

Great suggestion there too Skuzzy.  It was enabled so I disabled it.

Thanks!
