Its good to set up a center button on your stick, so when you are sitting in your best place you center the trackir, like F12 when you are in the Trackir program, also a trackir off and trackir pan( think its pan) are good to set up on your stick so you can turn it on and off in game , if and when you want to.all done in game.

Fun fact- F12 also works ingame, as does F9 to turn TrackIR on and off.
The main thing is, learn to adjust the curves and get your profile how you want it. Head tracking is the single most personal thing in the game IMO, way more than joystick settings. I find if some part of my profile is bugging me, it never really gets better until I fix it. YMMV.
My profile is aggressive. For gunnery rather than having an on/off switch for TrackIR, I prefer to just have dead space in the middle where you've got a bit of leeway and don't need to have your head exactly centered to put it in the gunsight. I've probably got about 3/4" or so of dead zone for my head before my x, y, z, pitch, and yaw kick in.
To be honest I could likely disable my y and z axes and not notice. My chair almost immobilizes my shoulders so I do most of my movement just sideways to look around the canopy.
