Modem/Router Recommendation?
« on: February 21, 2017, 08:54:22 PM »
I have Charter Spectrum internet.  I am using their provided modem and router.  I presume they are old and base models.

Is there any benefit to buying my own modem/router or combination?  Will I have better performance and consistency?

Can you recommend a modem, router or modem/router combo?

Thanks!

What speed are you paying for and what is make/model of the cable modem you have?

You meant 60 down and 4 up which means you have a cable modem/gateway. Go to http://speedtest.net . If you are getting 60 down then the only advantage to buying your own would be if you keep the same service long enough so that the rental coast exceeds the purchase price of a new modem.

Don't forget to figure in inflation but you will need an exceptionally clear crystal ball for that.  ;)

Thats exactly what I mean, lol!

I'm actually getting 60/4 and change on both ends.  No rental fee with Charter.

Sounds like I should just keep the free one?

If it's from your service provider be sure it's free. If it is then why buy?
