Gaming Modem and internet speeds
« on: February 23, 2017, 12:00:17 PM »
I am on a Verizon 100 mb ISP. I was wondering if up grading the speed is worth it or a waste for AH? They offer all the way up to 750/750 and we have many wireless and wired pieces of equipment in use most days in my home. Usually there are 2 or 3 hardwired computers going and 2 to 4 Ipads. Everyones cell phone is also connected when in the home.

The other part of the question...... are gaming modems an improvement over the average Modem provided by the ISP?

Thanks for any comments that can help me decide whats best for me.

Joker my Linksys wrt1900acs is about a year old and gets good coverage at my house with a plethora of smart devices ( 3xchromecast, fire stick, 2xsmart TVs and my single plugged in PC). Only spot that's lacking coverage is the back corner of my yard where I listen to ball games and grill. Extender on the porch fixed that.

The only thing you might gain is faster patch/content downloads, but as far as game play goes, it will not make any difference.

I have the same and I'm embarrassed to say what I have running on it. Lets say yours is a much smaller cleaner network than mine   :)

Saying that, It runs smooth with no issues.

Joker I have time Warner cable 200mb speed. It's awesome...I never have connection issues. The wireless wifi works all around the house all the way out by the backyard...I use to have Verizon and changing to twc was a great change.

Thanks guys. I have no problems right now but have been noticing some lag when a bunch of our devices are running. I want to preempt the problem before it starts affecting us in a more adverse way.

If anything I may need to use an extender.......something that increases the range of the signal.

Rud, I am stuck with Verzion so switching is not an option. Only can upgrade if necessary.

Cheers gents!

Well if you're lagging with lots of things connected it's likely your router. Is it a Verizon router? That may be your problem as it sounds like you should have plenty of bandwidth. I always fly with the wired connection as any wireless connection is gonna be inconsistent.
