Bomber Gunsights and accuracy
« on: March 14, 2017, 07:23:40 AM »
Here is the situation.

When AH3 first was released, I was greeted with bomber guns that I could actually hit and take out attacking enemy aircraft.

2 or 3 patches in......something changed.

Now I rarely can even hit the incoming target. Seems like....and while leading my shots....the target's damage area is micro in size and I can barely make contact.

I know how to shoot. Something is just not right, and I suspect my gun sights.

When I am mapping my controller.....there is an analog option for "sight range". Anyone know what this does? I've looked all over the HT site and google, nothing.

ANY input appreciated. There has to be some documentation on this, or someone know how to set these bomber gun sights up properly.

I believe gunner sight range is the range ring from the main gun view in german tanks.

Yes, i have it mapped on a slider and it makes it easier to adjust the range on the sight when in a tank that has that feature, like the German tanks and T-34.

Thanks guys.

I am now leaning towards the "field of view" settings, that you can adjust on the initial log in menu...thru "Video Settings".

Seen a MOTD that says AH3 default view is 80.....but in game, when you select the game to manage this setting, it defaults to 90.
Last night, another player suggested I try 106. He said that he found that to be the closest to AH2. It would be interested to hear what other pilots are using for this setting.

So I am thinking that maybe there is a connection between FOV settings and accuracy issues with my gun sights. Dunno....grasping straws.

If I discover anything, will be sure to update this thread.

IIRC the FOV was dropped down to 80 because that's what other flight sims seem to use, but HiTech raised it to 90 because so many old players seemed to have issues in adjusting themselves to the new value. 106 was right for AH2. And of course this is true to 1920x1080 only, by default I got 100 in AH2, 84 in AH3.

Capera,

During your first few weeks of AH3 did you leave the FoV at the game default?

I was doing some gunnery testing over the weekend in 106 foV on a 24 inch monitor. Had to use zoom half the time against the drones. Just tested 100 and never had to use zoom. It also made using sea mode from the 16in on the battleship more accurate in judging corrections with the yellow horizontal ladder.

I am pretty sure I had it set to default, for the first few weeks in AH3. Then of course, one starts changing settings to test stuff....and then nothing is ever the same.

Going to try 100. My view looks normal again, but I am still not able to hit things with guns. I used to consistently be able to hit an attacking plane, into a Vbase (de-acking) using an ossy. Not every time.....but more than 50% of the time. Now.....one out of 15 times, I may...may get a hit.  :o\

Gonna figure it out....one way or another.

Thanks for all the input so far. Every bit helps

I checked back 12 tours and your not really that far off in AH3 compared to back "then". I think changing your FOV to 106 (like AH2 was like) and a bit of practice you'll feel more comfortable in your gunning abilities.
