Working On New Build - Got A Question For The Experts
« on: March 30, 2017, 12:47:16 PM »
So FedEx delivered the components for my new build this morning and I got to tell you, things have changed a bit since I last built a new computer back in the 90's.

I was looking at the new WD Black 1TB HDD and as I had already read, there is nothing on how to configure the jumpers. So I went to the WD support and found several jumper configurations. And my question is, since I have the 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache HDD, is it safe to assume that I should set the jumpers to get the 3.0GB data transfer speed as pictured below:

Is doing the PHY Enabled configuration the best way to set these jumpers or is there a better setting?

Thanks for the help.

Leave it default so you get the full 6.0Gb/s transfer rate.

The jumper setting you circled will slow it down to 3.0Gb/s.

What Drane said. There's a reason why they don't provide the jumper information too easily. Most likely you didn't even get the jumper with the disk. It's only needed to install a new hdd to an old system.

Alright then, default it is.

Now all I got to do is rundown some Arctic 5 silver compound. Forgot to order some when I ordered the components and nobody seems to have it in my area.

Thanks for the help,
