New Player - Can I practice against AI?
« on: April 03, 2017, 09:27:01 AM »
I've done some searching on this topic but wasn't sure what the current state was - Can I practice against AI pilots (either offline or online).  I'm a new player and I'm a little nervous about doing something wrong in the online game.  Should I just hop in a plane on the server and start trying to shoot people down, or will that hurt my team somehow?

I'd like to fight ai planes ( I actually have been practicing my first steps on the drones but I'd like something a little more dynamic) so I get a basic feel for the game.  I'm also playing in VR with a g940 hotas.

  Thanks for your help.

If you fly in the "Missions" arena(s), you can be pitted against AI if no one fills the slots.

See the staged mission and custom arena forum.  There are a number of staged missions that let you fly against aggressive AI planes.  Let me know if you still have questions.

first off, welcome!

if you have already been buzzing around off line you have the basics worked out. take off, maneuvering and landing tho some call that landing   :D next comes some fighting. as skuzzy said the mission arena can help there.

on the other hand, your not going to mess anything up jumping into the main arena either. You may not help your team but you wont hurt it either. there are more players in the main arena and if you ask questions they will help you out.

be warned you will die a lot! everyone does at first. dont let it get you down. this game is a blast!

Flying offline against the circling drones is where I started... Try different aircraft, with different fuel load outs to get a feel for each plane.

DO NOT WORRY about getting shot down/killed in the Main Arena. You will not hurt your team, and you will get better alot faster. It's all for fun, so jump in and give it a try!.

One other option is the "Training Arena", there are some great dedicated Trainers that would goto that arena and let you dogfight them all whilst giving you tips and tricks... Jump into the "TA" ifyou see anyone in there and just ask for help on the orange help text channel.

If you're in the Main Arena, don't forget to ask for some help on range voice "F12", most in the arena will help you out or "wing" with you if you ask nicely.

I fly with the "56th", a guild that is on the Rook country at the moment, and we typically fly P-47's, check us out if you get squirrely and jump into MA...

You will do something wrong.  But don't worry, that's how you learn.  Make sure you save the film so you can laugh at it later.  Then take off and try again.
