As a teacher I had my first blow up with a student. I've went the entire year, held my tongue, lost my patience. This girl is the most rude, disrespectful, obnoxious, piece of work I've ever seen. She is so rude to her peers and to her teachers. Well today I had personally had enough. The last class of the day is World History from 1499-Present. As I'm introducing, This Day in History, per usual, she just starts talking about her overdramatic love life. I politely ask her to stop and listen, but noooooooooo she kept on going and that when I felt Mt. Vesevius 2.0 about to happen. So I waited, took a deep breath, and continued. Well she finally stopped talking and then we started the instruction on the Industrial Revolution. So as I start she thinks it's okay to sit beside her so called friend and start talking again about pointless drama. While the rest of the class was listening and taking notes I decided to let her talk, because I had a devious plan up my sleeve...POP QUIZ.

While the rest of the class aced the quiz she did not. So to continue, after the quiz the students continued work on a project for creating their own inventions, much like those of the industrial revolution. It was then I over heard this girl talking about sexual things, and what she thought of me. At the point I kicked her out of class and forced her to work in the hallway. When she came back in after class ended I made her stay. I told this girl in a raised voice how disrespectful she truly was, and that she had the audacity to disrespect me in front of the entire class. I then told her that until further notice she lost all electronic privileges and had to sit by herself from now on. I then continued on about how I've attempted to have patience with her, but I lost it because of her sorry a** attitude, and her respect. I continued on telling her that if she didn't learn to respect authority that she was eventually just going to be another statistic for females in prison. Keep in mind she's reared up at this point, but I didn't care. I then went on and told her that if she continued disrespecting myself and her peers, and continued being as rude as possible that she would quickly find herself alone and afraid with no one there to help her.

Then I told her to leave my class and I expected better out of a young lady not a wannabe thug.

Was I harsh? Yes.

Was I out of line? Maybe.

Do I care? Yes. As a teacher it's my job to care for all my students, regardless of the hell they give me. I want to see them all succeed. Are they all gonna succeed? No, but I can damn sure try.

Sorry for the rant, carry on 

Sad that our teachers are tasked with the results of poor parenting. So are the other students.

I suggest we have a federal program for all toddlers begin in pre-k go through HS,  a new program where they learn discipline. Beatings will be allowed by teachers and parents alike.

We'll have 8 virtues we start braining the children so that they'll behave for our teachers in school.

Rectitude or Justice training
Courage class
Benevolence or Mercy training
Politeness training
Honesty and sincerity training
Honor class
Loyalty
Character and Self-Control

Let's call it Bushido.

And then wait a couple of generations and see how they turn out.

I'd have the entire class put their electronics in the box at the door when they walk into class.  They can get it back when they leave.

Regarding that student...

March her butt to the principle's office.  You don't have the time for that crap.   You tried once.  Don't let it go if it happens again.  It is not your job to parent her.  But it is your job, as a mentor to guide her correctly.  And at this point, consequences is where she needs to be guided.  The consequences of her action in class would be, you get to go have a visit with the Principle. 

Eventually she learns from it or she resists and spends all of her free time in detention. 

In fact, you can, and you seem to have to, be tough on her.  You can, let her know that it is for her own good and if she ever needs a safe place to discuss things, your door is always open, however if not you then seek the school counselor.

Here's the thing, the way the school system is setup there is a 'point' system that is followed for behavior, and before I take them to the office, and administration the student has to be on that point. Like if it takes 5 points for them to go to the office, then I have to wait for the 5th point

Question BFoot- what are "electronic privileges".  I always wondered what school rules would be on modern tech. WHen I was in high school the C64/Amiga with "Geos" as its basic works/processing package was the latest/greatest new thing, and if you snuck a calculator into an exam when you weren't supposed to have it, you could be expelled.  Considering the teaching/learning power of laptops for students, and now phones/hand held wonder computers, are students allowed to use these while at school?  Obviously if that answer is yes, there would have to be some sort of restrictions otherwise they'd be Facebooking all day.  Just interested in how that works...

Well students have access to almost any internet source, minus pornsites. So what I've done is taken her phone, and I have add the media assistant restrict all social media on her school computer

I once had an elementary student stick a knife in her teacher. Other times they bring guns to school, "and not for deer hunting". This is 1st thru 8th grade schools.

The Catholic grade schools I went to would hit you upside your head for talking in class. And then you'd spend the next hour begging Jesus to intervene and not have them call home to let the old man know

I was a bit of a bastard when I was in 3rd through 5th grade.  Not consciously disrespectful, more of a class clown.  I would do anything for a laugh.  Got in tons of trouble, lots of detention.  Always disrupting class with some clowning, almost every day.  I vividly remember the principal - a WW2 marine pilot - still sporting his high-and-tight, dragging me from one end of the school property to the other by the hair because of one stunt.  And it was nothing my parents did or didn't do.  They were/are the best, no problem dishing out discipline.  The thing that turned me around was my 5th grade teacher sitting me in a desk at the back of the room with cardboard walls on 3 sides (we called it the 'box') for an entire year.  I couldn't see the rest of the class, and could barely see her.  I doubt they'd allow that now.  It worked though.  I found my focus, turned into a straight A student, got a free ride to a university on an academic scholarship, and I run my own little engineering firm now.  To this day I credit my 5th grade teacher with setting me on the right path.

 In detention we would get a rosarie while doing the stress/kneeling in the desk...mind you I wasn't Catholic, so had NO idea wth I was doing with it, but I would copy other kids and just mumble inaudibly and go through the motions to fit in, and hope it didn't get any worse...
