LG-1 Bf 110C
« on: April 05, 2017, 03:09:13 PM »
Thanks to Lyric1 for finding the info for this skin.

This Bf 110C from Lehrgeschwader-1 was flown during the Battle of Britain by Unteroffizier Hans Bechthold with Unteroffizier Wilhelm Harder as his radio operator. Harder was killed in action in July while Bechthold became a POW in Britain in September.

LG-1 was an unusual unit in that it operated a mix of aircraft types; He-111s, Ju-88s, Ju-87s and Bf-110s. It suffered a high loss rate during the Battle of Britain, with 95 aircraft shot down over Britain in the last half of 1940 plus another 13 written off. The Bf 110 squadron suffered the worst, reduced to three aircraft by September it had to be withdrawn from operations.

Brilliant!  Very nice scheme; I like the darker colors.  Should be great for the August scenario!

Awesome!

And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

Greebo, do you have a reference picture that shows the fuselage and upper wing crosses? Seems to me that they don't have the thin outer black lines when they should.

I used the photo above as my reference, there's a better version of it here. As I couldn't see any outlines on it only the lower crosses have them on the skin. Were they mandatory on all aircraft during the BoB or were they just used on those aircraft painted in the lighter RLM 02 scheme?

Actually looking at that photo again I have spotted another issue with the skin; there should be dark (black?) heat plates around fitted around the exhausts.

The regulation was to have the outer black outlines. But looking at the reference photo, the upper wing cross does not have standard dimensions and based on the semi gloss nature of the inner black cross, I done see any outer black portion there either. It's very possible that the fuselage crosses omitted the outer stripes as well for whatever reason.

Excellent work, it will be put to good use here in August!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!
